In this blues guitar lesson we’ll talk about one of the common-er jazz/jump style variations.

It’s a ii-V (two-five) move over bars 9 and 10 of the 12 bar blues form… where instead of using the V and the IV chord, we use the – you guess it, ii and V chord.

This is a great thing to be able to hear and use, when it’s called.

So keep your big ears open and check it out!

And in the video I mention the How To Build Blues Songs course in case you want to check that out too.

Thanks Griff! I am a long time pentatonic scale player and yearn for a softer sound. I use your major-6th scale (BB-King) and love it. Recently I fell in love an album called “Swing Guitar” by Duke Robillard. This lesson sheds light on how he gets that sound. I am sure long-timers like me might appreciate more material like this. It is always exiting to understand why a sound works and lean into it just for fun. And yes I have “How to Build Better Blues Songs” and plan to have another look at it with new insight in mind.

Great lesson and it is particularly apropos to my alma mater. I hope your son flourishes there, Griff. Thanks for illuminating the ii-V turnaround for us.

My alma mater too. I think it’s a requirement for being Mike.

Cool one love that jazz . Like it when it all falls to the fingers without the brain interfering . It is the heart speaking i think . My last practice that happened I just went with a flow and hey what was that . I went on to create something I never did before very cool.

      Hello Griff,
I love the way you are bringing tid bits from the courses. I’m currently going through HTBBS. I find it very encouraging. I start to look for whatever it is in the course that you mentioned in the blog or video. I’m still loving my courses and the whole journey for that matter.
      Kind regards
