I thought it would be fun to take the first chorus out of an 8 bar blues song from my 5 Easy Acoustic Blues Songs series…
The 8 bar blues is less common than the 12 bar, but still used in a lot of songs (most notably “Key To The Highway.”)
In this video I’ll go over the general process and how to play the whole first chorus (there are 3 choruses in each of the 5 songs in the course.)

As long as it has been taking me to make time for consistent play/practice, I’m so glad I got on the Griff Hamlin train. There’s a lot of stuff for me to work on and it’s fun, well-presented, and well-sequenced, all with a kind and supportive vibe. This, along with continuing BGU, are the perfect places to jump in this week! Thanks so much for what you do and how you do it, Griff.
Saw Doc Watson years ago in Boulder Colorado. Blind, acoustic finger style, amazing what you can do. Saw Neil Young in a solo concert, played acoustic and piano. One of the best concerts ever. Great song writer. Really like this lesson, just wrote a song for it.
Chorus: I got the MasterCard blues
Use it right on down the line
Never does get paid off
Pay my bills right on time
This was a good lesson, Griff. I actually have your 5 Easy Blues Songs course, but I only learned Honey Pie. I made a video a few months ago and sent it out to my music friends, and everyone liked it. This lesson inspires me to go back and learn the other songs. I am going to try to focus more on getting the timing correct. It’s easy for me to drift off.
Really good to know. Thanks
Griff good lesson, thank you
That was great 👍🏿
Thank you for the Lesson’s Griff!!!
Great! Do more acoustic stuff! No need for pedals and electric gadgets.
A good one for the porch all summer
Great lesson on the fundamentals of playing early country blues. Meeds to be everyone’s arsenal for sure. Thanks, as always Griff.
This was a good lesson for me.
