For blues and blues/rock soloing, many times we take a simple approach of just using the minor pentatonic/blues scale for the whole thing…

And while that works over 12 bar blues changes, sometimes it sounds better when there is some other chord progression (especially if you’ve got some time on each chord) to play “chase the chord.”

So in this video I’ll show you how I like to do that over a couple of progressions similar to ZZ Top’s “Cheap Sunglasses” and “Couldn’t Stand The Weather” by Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Dig it!

Griff, Would it be possible for you to provide a download WAV of your YouTube videos when you can, as I have dreadful problems watching you on YouTube. I have no idea why, as I can watch other stuff here, but never your’s in true time, you are always freezing up! When you offer the WAV file at least I can watch it in comfort. Cheers. Phil

I seem to have the same problem, I believe it’s when the video is embeded on the site, rather than watching directly on the Youtubes. If you right click on the video you can copy the link and use that to download but not sure if this is approved.

Yes. The embeded video freezes hopelessly for me using Firefox browser. Chrome is a little better. I have to follow the link to watch them on YouTube for them to sync correctly.

That was exactly the same I thought… 🙂

Griff has the greatest t-shirt collection on the planet!

      • Louis Ogden

I agree Tom. Personally, my t-shirt collection is full of Deep Purple shirts (my only fave hard rock band) and Steely Dan shirts from (most every tour since 2 Against Nature and several earlier ones too), my yacht rock fave, and many blues shirts. I have very eclectic taste in music – Kinks, Deep Purple, Steely Dan, Zappa, and BLUES ROCK galore!
