Jam along with backing tracks to improve your improvisation.

While I was surfing YouTube, I came across a channel that has released several jazzy backing tracks to play along with.  I thought it would be a good way to practice your licks over a different music styles.  While there aren’t any blues tracks like you are probably used to by now, these are some nice sounding backing tracks that change up the music.  It’s also a good example of how versatile the blues scale is, as it can be played over most of these changes.  Enjoy!

The first backing track that really stood out to me was a funky little groove over E7.  The guys over at CoffeeBreakSongs can make a cool groove.  Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjF5UuGsSJU&feature=plcp&context=C3ee1a1cUDOEgsToPDskKnMa63neZwilH1Hw_Acsar.

The next track settles on G minor.  It’s a straight R&B groove that may provide some new ideas for your improvisation.  Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwSvlMhZLys&feature=plcp&context=C382a2acUDOEgsToPDskJhBUgobHnPfGOQIMSxvlC0.

The last track that I’ll provide for you here is over A minor.  It’s a slower groove, so you’ll have some more time to think about your improvisation.  It’s also got a bit more of a back beat, so I prefer it.  Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_HsFp-OuGo&feature=plcp&context=C365c23dUDOEgsToPDskLnQxZ6vlX8zkx29U8pGU5w.

There are plenty more backing tracks to play over from Coffee Break Songs.  Check out more of them on their website for even more inspiration for your improvisation.  I hope you liked them!

Thanks,

Griff
