There’s a bit of a “trick” to playing fast in the style of Gary Moore, Walter Trout, Johnny Winter, and others…

Today I’ll show you how it works, grab your guitar 🙂

As always, timing is essential. And this is just one of the many skills we cover in Blues Guitar Unleashed, in case you want to check that out.

Teachers in video lessons never seem to give tuning notes. Any reason for this? It would just take a couple of seconds.

totally humiliating, I took a lead that I’ve been struggling over for so long and with the addition of the pull offs,hammerr-ons. tweed lies and so forth I could play that thing so good and on time. Thanks, Griff. I knew them but was hardly using them to my advantage, the weather meant to be used..Thanks again.

Is my course a lifetime membership and am I paying $57 each month?

This was a great perspective on how to incorporate these techniques into my guitar playing. Have definitely struggled pull offs etc. and this is worth a shot of learning them via the boxes. Great lesson.

I paid $57 and I still don’t know what I am getting for my money!?

You remain a HUGE asset to our genre. Thank you for all you do.

Well I’m working on the CGU courted with the BGU and the CRGU kind of played with as well.. I’ve been strumming and noodling for many years and even playing out Kindergarten style that I have. I am having a hell of a time with the Basic skills and the “right way” to do things (like constant motion strumming), but I already do some of this. I’ll look up in my Baroque piano book what kind of an ORNAMENT (that’s what they call those) that is, because I like theory and history in music (love it actually). I don’t know what I’ve learned as a dedicated all-access member so far, but I am getting used to your humor, Griff! Rock on!

OK, I’m not a fan of heavy metal, but I’ve seen some of their guitarist using alternate picking, where they do pick every note – in fact, I saw one lesson where the person was taking a fairly straight lick and rearranging it so that it could be played with alternative picking, even though he was distorting his left hand a lot to keep his right hand on the up/down, up/down. I just mention this as it is not something I’m interested in doing, but rather that it is something some players do in a non-blues context.

      • Griff

Oh, absolutely, alternate picking is a huge deal in heavy rock and metal, especially. I play a lot of that music and *can* do it, but on licks like these with the tweedlies in them, it simply won’t work with the slurs. You have to have the hammer-ons and pull-offs at your disposal to get the sound.

      Hey Griff!
Another excellent “Secrets Revealed” lesson from you!
But dude, I gotta ask you, did you have a whole pot of coffee before filming this? Your playing was, naturally appropriately quick but your speech was on “fast forward” at times!
It made me think maybe AI did some manipulating here.
Or, did you speed up the narration to save time?
      At any rate, thank you….
      ….again!

      • Griff

I’ve been accused of taking too long to get to the point, so I try to get through the talking parts and get to the playing parts 🙂 And it’s entirely possible I had coffee first, yes.

Thanks for your information and breakdown for increasing
your playing speed. This is very helpful to an intermediate
player. I’ve played a long time, but have always pretty much
picked every note and that does limit you for sure. Anyway,
      thanks for lesson.
