However, sometimes that’s easier said than done, especially if you’ve already got a bunch of “beat 1” licks.
Here’s a super simple way to add a little pickup to your existing licks and get them off beat 1 and into the blues sound…
Of course, if you’re learning all your blues licks from me (like the ones in Blues Guitar Unleashed or 50 Slow Blues Licks By The Box) then they’re already off beat 1 for you..
BUT, you can still use this trick to add even more or change the ones you have.

Brain fog… So this tip is to add pickup notes in previous measure so we can start the true lick on Beat One without the rhythm baggage? I was expecting you would suggest we do pickups on 1 to force the target lick downstream.

Don’t differentiate between the pickup notes and the lick, once you add the pickup notes, you’ve got a new idea that is no longer starting on beat 1. If you do the pickups on beat 1, you’re starting on beat 1 and that’s not what you want.

Can you show us how to play the major pentatonic in all 12 keys in one area of the fretboard only ? Trying not to jump around let’s like in 4 fret span like within the 5th to 8th fret
