Buddy Guy is a true blues legend that still entertains audiences worldwide today! Photo courtesy of Wikipedia.org

We’re so fortunate to still have Buddy Guy performing on stage today, but I wanted to back in time a little bit and find some early Buddy Guy videos to share with you.  Buddy Guy puts on a great show and has appeared on stage with a lot of great players.  Some of the videos I found feature classic performances from Buddy Guy and even a tribute Buddy Guy did for Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and John Lee Hooker.  I hope you enjoy the videos as much as I did!

The first video is a blues favorite and it’s called “Sweet Home Chicago.”  Buddy Guy plays a great version of it at a show in Houston, TX.  Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuRhaDrnlWo.

The next video comes from the movie Chicago Blues in 1970 and features Buddy Guy performing the song, “First Time I Met The Blues.”  Find it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_rd8y8A2oE.

Buddy Guy performs probably the fastest version of the song, “Knock On Wood,” that I have ever heard.  It’s smoking!  Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpa6nvfxmLI&feature=related.

[youtube_sc url=”http://youtu.be/hpa6nvfxmLI” width=”420″ rel=”0″]

The last video I want to share with you features a tribute that Buddy Guy performed for Cream, Hendrix, and Hooker.  Find it here at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQqNTgnJmpE.

These videos only count for a small taste of the extensive song collection of Buddy Guy, but hopefully it’s enough to wet your appetite.  There’s plenty more out there about blues great, Buddy Guy.

Thanks,

Griff

two greatest moments in my life.First one was to meet and play harp with john lee(Mt Hood jazz festivial),the second was to meet and harp with buddy(Portland waterfront Blues).Like BB said once”anybody can play the blues, but it takes a life time to master them”.

I just watched Buddy Guy give a history lesson! I know where the blues came from, but I hope he doesn’t mind if I try to play it anyway. If playing the blues gives me half as much enjoyment as listening and watching him play it I am going to have a great time. I am going to be taking lessons with you soon Griff, ( On dvd of course)but I want to get my fingers in shape with the very simple basics first. Talk to you soon!

saw him a couple of months back with my son….had seen him twice before…the ticket was a birthday present…even in his seventies, he provided a killer show…one of those concerts that you wish wouldn’t end….he played the guitar, played the audience and played some blues history…great evening with a true blues icon…special moment with my son…

but I got to say this is amps were on screech…..great tone but I can imagine the stage volume..but I’d take it in a heart beat…bg…
