Most folks learn the pentatonic/blues scales through the “5 boxes” that come up time and time again, and they are fantastic patterns…
But I find that if I can look at things a little differently and break those patterns apart into one, single pattern that repeats…
Then I can quickly get from one box to another really easily and without a whole lot of hoopla or mental gymnastics.
I came up with a subway train analogy in the middle of the video and it really makes sense, you just get off the train when you need to 🙂

Marty Music had a similar video demonstrating that pattern. Griff’s theory explanation in this video really brought it home. I have been practicing this from the 6th to the 1st string and back to the 6th. I will now add starting on the 4th or 3rd strings as well. After that I will add in jumps off the train into the minor or major pentatonic. Thank you Griff.
love it! Thanks Griff! Your daily updates are the best!
I think i have seen David Gilmore solos, he doses use this style. You do this before. In an email.
I don’t know if you had a bit of your blues pedal on, but I did hear a fret Buzz on you D string around the 5th fret.
Also, the scratch on the top by the sun burst. Esay fix, if the finish is a nitro finish. Then Maybe you want that worn look.
As always, nice Tutoral.
This guitar is a 1969, so the finish has got some love from time, and I don’t mind it at all. The frets have been re-done more than once and the neck is barely hanging on so yeah, there’s probably a little buzzing here and there but it still does the job.
Did I just see 3 options for the “house” pattern?
Can I use this as alternate areas of the neck to play the house pattern?
Great as always! Thank you Griff for taking time to share.
Ive always only been able to remember each box if i connect it to the one before it , then the one before it and on and on..i learned this labeled as “the extended pentatonic scale” and never realized it was sort of octaves even though iam Familiar with the octaves shape it follows lol.. sucks how i get this weird hyper focused view while at the same time have “guitar ADD” and take forever to put things together (or never do).. guitar is hard 😜🎸🎸👍🏼✌️

Very informative, I would call it “ The Pentatonic Scale Train Connector”. I’m out on medical, & I now have time to checkout your daily emails & videos! You’re oh some Griff, Thanks for the lesson! Always wondered how you can move up & down the neck & not get lost!
Love It!
