In this video, courtesy of PremierGuitar, Joe Bonamassa talks about his new album Dust Bowl, and the ’59 Les Paul he’s been grabbing for a few songs a night. He also briefly describes the amps and pedalboards he is using for his own tour, and with Black Country Communion.
If you haven’t heard of Joe Bonamassa, he has managed to position himself atop a pretty substantial crop of Blues/Rock guitar players. Having #1 albums on itunes, and sharing the Royal Albert Hall stage with Eric Clapton has done a lot to solidify that standing. But of course, none of it would happen with some killer blues chops which Joe has in spades.
Check out the video, and notice about 15 seconds in when Joe plays a pretty standard blues lick. Just for fun I wrote it out and put it below the video.
Now here’s the lick I referred to:
Pay careful attention to the grace note (2nd fret, 3rd string, the little number in the TAB) and how it slides without picking up to the 4th fret and then slides back down to the 2. Also make sure to play this in a swing feel. It’s in the key of E and comes right out of the E minor pentatonic/blues scale.
And just for fun, if you haven’t seen Joe play much, here’s a great video of him playing “Breakin’ Up Somebody’s Home” with Gov’t Mule led by another great guitar player, Warren Haynes.
There’s also a free download available (with an email address) from http://www.jbonamassa.com/dustbowl

This especially answered my drawback, thanks!
Loved reading this, excellent things, thankyou . “Golf isn’t a game, it’s a choice that one tends to make with one’s life.” by Charles Rosin.
My companion and I stumbled more than right here by a various website and believed I might also verify things out. I like what I see so now i am following you. Appear forward to taking a look at your web page again.
Thanks for your ideas you’ve discussed here. Moreover, I believe usually there are some factors that really keep your automobile insurance premium straight down. 1 is, to consider buying motors that are inside the great directory of car insurance organizations. Cars which can be expensive tend to become much more at risk of being stolen. Aside from that insurance is also using the value of your vehicle, so the much more expensive it’s, then higher a premium you make payment for.
Spot on with this write-up, I actually think this website
needs much more attention. I’ll probably be returning to see more, thanks for the information!
Useful information. Lucky me I discovered your website
accidentally, and I’m surprised why this coincidence did not happened earlier! I bookmarked it.
I continue to be impressed with Joe. Not only is he a stellar player (mentored by the late Danny Gatton) but he seems like a very down to earth guy.
Fantastic! Im not very experienced and watching this has given me even more drive to get better. Thanks Guys
hey Griff,
Thanks for turning us on to Joe. The Les Paul is awesome. He’s been playing for a very long time already unbeknownst to me here in Hawaii. Found this–

Awesome to hear two great guitarists trade licks like that.Keep that stuff coming!
Cool I saw Joe with Black Country Communion last week and I was admiring the same ’59 Les Paul and saying to myself wow Joe plays one of those ’59 reissues. Oops it evidently was “Real Deal”, a ’59. Nice Guitar!!!
Its great to see there is a new generation of young players to carry on the tradition of great blues playing and soloing. They carry on for SRV, Albert King and others will fill the shoes of current legendary players when they are gone.
great stuff
I’ve got tickets to see BCC in June….can’t wait…later.
