If you’ve never heard me talk about quarter note triplets and how amazing and useful they are in blues soloing….
Well. consider that time over and gone 🙂
But out of all of my students over the decades, almost no one can play them or count them.
At slower speeds like we’re using them in this lick, it’s not problem to count them, and eventually you’ll just feel them and you can play them at higher speeds.
Feel is ALWAYS the goal, right?

Staggered triplets
I need this bad. In the vid, you were using all down strokes. Is that just to get used to counting the triplets or is that the preferred technique? Thanks for the exercise.
It really doesn’t matter if you use all down or down and up, or even all up! Do what’s easy, it’s about the counting.
My gosh! Magic! Which means I am absolutely incapable of doing it!! Yet.
Great window.
Perfect. Planned to start working on those this week, albeit with counting and clapping. This will add to that and hopefully help me. Thanks, Griff.
I did it, but only at a slow to medium speed. It’s easy for me to get off, especially on that 3rd one. I’ll have to practice this some more, speed it up and change the notes around to make it more interesting.
