Many of my students come to me only after having spent many years trying to learn how to play the blues…
And often, even after they’ve learned some scales and licks and solos, they still struggle to play something they can be proud of, or something they really enjoy.
The problem doesn’t lie with more scales or more licks or more patterns or “more” of anything, it lies in something a lot of people will call, “phrasing,” but I like to call it “playing with intent.”
Check out the video and let me know what you think and if you’ve tried it for yourself.
If this approach is totally new to you, you might want to try Beginning Blues Guitar Soloing, but if you have more experience soloing, maybe check out Soloing Without Scales for a new way to look at things.

thanks griff i was struggling with this yesterday trying to jam over a track and trying to make it sound bluesy it just sounded like a bunch of notes and not smooth. i know scales and riffs but trying to make it sound like a smooth blues will take time.
