Today’s video is just a fun turnaround lick in the key of G over a slow blues.
It’s not too hard to play and has a real nice feel, so dig in!

That’s a killer turnaround; love that little trill…
Is the tab wrong on the last chord the way I’m reading it’s a G6 would have to have a 5th string root to be D9
You would be correct if the way you’re reading the tab is upside down with the top line representing the low E 6th string. You’d have G B E, a G6 (1 3 6).
Reading correctly with the bottom line representing the 6th string you have D as your 5th string root followed by F# and C, the 3 and b7;
D F# C =D7 (w/o a 5)
Adding an E on the 2nd string would give you the 9; D F# C E.
And extending the barre to the 1st string would give you an A on top;
D F# C E A = 1 3 b7 9 5
Or maybe you’re seeing the bottom borderline under the example as the 6th string?
Either way you’re seeing the root as G on the 4th string rather than the D it is on the 5th string.
Interesting that if you move the same D7 chord shape up a string it becomes a G6 due to the “B string shift”.
Just learn to read music.
Knowing how to read standard notation would only confirm it’s a D7 chord.
It wouldn’t explain why he’s reading the TAB incorrectly by numbering the lines incorrectly.
Nor would it show WHERE Griff played the chord.
I enjoy reading the comments, as they reflect my positive views as well. Nice job Griff as usual.
Wow! Love that!
great lick Griff, thanks. Maybe I am wrong but I kind of think of the last four bars as the turn around not just the last two. That 5 to the 4 just kind of leads my ear twords a wrap up or at least makes me know we are headed to the top. Would love to see some four bar turnarounds. again thanks for all the great info
Bill
nice & easy turnaround, thx Griff
keep those easy ones comin’ bro 🙂
Hi Griff … nice to see you moved to Texas, I have a few friends who left California also, and they are so GLAD they did. GOOD MOVE BRO!!!
Didnt see the tab download
Right click on the tab and then click “save image as”.
Griff, Great lesson. I’m glad to see that you ride a motorcycle.
Hey, you really got to get your bike fixed and go for a ride.
My second favourite passion is motorcycle riding. Living in Canada, it can’t be my first, cause here I can play guitar every day of the year … riding, not so much. 🙂 Keep up the great lessons.
Yak (Norm) LOL
The first thing that caught my eye is the time signature 12/8 time?? Nice turn around though!!
THAT LAST LICK WITH THE D9, COULD BE USED TO START A SONG ALSO. LOVE IT GRIFF. !
whenever i try to think in that time signature, i think of heart of stone
Count: 1 and ah 2 and ah 3 and ah 4 and ah. That will count you through 1 measure of 12/8 time. Don’t make it difficult. Keep it simple.
Cool stuff, Griff. Thanks!

Nice lick. Should be a staple, thanks! (Completely off subject, but I’m curious(your choice of shirts}. Do you ride? And if you do, I’m wondering why we haven’t crossed paths before. Riverside area.
I do ride, but I haven’t much in the last few years. I need to get some work done on my bike and just haven’t found the time.
Thanks, cool lick. Very well explained.
Griff, Many Thanks … Regards
