Very nice, Griff. Yes, a simple arrangement, but- as you often say, sometimes simple is all you need to sound great. Housekeeping point, in bar 24 the standard notation shows a G note while the TAB shows an open D. Seems the open G is the correct note, but most have probably figured that out anyway.
MERRY CHIRISTMAS GRRIFF AND FAMILY!
SAW THIS LAST YAR. SEEMS LIKE IT WAS JUST LAST MONTH. HOW TIME FLYS.
MAYBE NEXT TIME, WE CAN LEARN JINGLE BELL ROCK. I REMBER PLAYING IT FOR MY KIDS WHEN IN DAY CARE FOR THE CHRISTMAS PAGENT.2003
Best Christmas wishes to you and the group! I’m really enjoying the BGU 2.0 lessons and your daily offerings with my coffee are wonderful. Thanks for sharing this!
Who is the most popular guitar teacher out there? Why Griff it’s undoubtedly you! And thoroughly well deserved too. Thank you so much Griff for everything you have taught me throughout the year. I wish you and your family health and happiness for many years to come. I’m
Merry CHRISTmas and Happy New Years. Best wishes to you and yours. Thanks for the great holiday song. Some people don’t know a white (snow) CHRISTmas. But do remembers the bells and holiday cheer 😊PEACE enjoy
Thanks for everything you shared with us this year. Always look forward to your lessons and blogs.
Wishing you and your family a wonderfull christmas and a great 2018
Love it. A suggestion for us listeners’ ears: instead of saying “play the forth fret on the B string” just say B4, A3, D6 etc. When you explain 7 notes in a row you can reduce a ton of words , plus make it so much easier to follow. Try it with a student. I think they will love it.
I love hearing/watching you do this song Griff. My favorite tune at this time of year is The Christmas Song (aka Chestnuts Roasting). I play the accompaniment using semi-jazz chords (Mickey Baker style). I’d love to hear how you approach it. Wishing the Hamlin household a very Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you and your family. Thanks for this beautiful sound. Wish I could have downloaded but since I only have this phone was not able to. Have a great Christmas
Greetings Griff, thanks for sharing your talents to those of us wanting to expand our skills and vocabulary. Merry Christmas to you and family and God bless you always have a great day!
Great lesson Griff and beautifully played. This is just what I needed for Christmas. I have decided to work on it until I can play it well right through from memory so I have something nice to play for friends at Christmas parties. Thank you!
Love working on this silver bells song.. Got me into the Christmas spirit.. I just heard Albert king playing a Christmas song called Santa clause needs some loving. Cool song that kind of breaks a rule or to on chords progression… You might want to check it out… Your a good man Griff. Keep up the good work..

Geez-O-Pete…this guy is in a “do nothing rut”. Don’t blame it on Christmas “sneaking up on you”…you know every year when it comes…you’ve gotten lazy…period. You have nothing new and when or if you do come up with something…it sounds like everything else you’ve done…you’re in a rut…even the majority of the comments are re-runs…wow, how lazy can one get!
Wow, Robert- you need to lighten up a little. Griff is always coming up with something new. Yes, this is a recycled lesson, but it is a darn good one. Hope you get a little more in the Christmas spirit as the holiday approaches.
Moosmeat, SPOT ON. Griff does this for free and his time in working on these arrangements must be considerable. Very generous I would say. Merry Christmas, to you and all whom read this.
Merry Christmas thank you so much for all of the lessons you give up because of you my plane is getting better every day I have several of your DVD packages. You are an awesome teacher somebody I can relate to please keep going the way you are thank you very much Gary D
Hey Griff,
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and you Family. A wonderful Silver Bells arrangement and was hoping that you would post it again! Thanks for all of your lessons. I think I have purchased almost all of your DVD Lesssson Packages because you are a really excellant teacher and I have learned so much about playing guitar and music from you. So Thanks! ALL THE BEST
Dear Griff, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you & yours, the last e-mail worked out SO well, so easy to add something so cool to a blues arrangement. Silver Bells was a perfect song for the season & it DOES sound so pretty with two ,As I’ve mentioned before ,our son in law says he wants to learn, so this is great for the BOTH of us. Stay healthy & keep up the good work I really enjoy this, running a business (bicycle shop ) 7 days a week doesn’t leave a lot of time for guitar playing some times ,so I take the time where I can .Also liked the suggestion of doing it during commercials too ! Respectfully,Kim-(the guy who got out of jury duty to go play !)
Hey There. I found your blog using msn. This is a really well written article.
I’ll make sure to bookmark it and return to read more of your useful info.
Thanks for the post. I will definitely return.
Love the video Griff, it brought back wonderful memories from my youth, ive always loved this song since i heard Elvis’ version from his 1971 christmas album which i still play to death!!..Lol.
Merry christmas to you & your family buddy…Regards Tony B ( Swansea, South Wales, UK ).
Thank you. Of course this would also be very nice on an acoustic or classical guitar, especially on an acoustic that has lots of sustained ring like your Taylor.
Great lesson to learn finger picking! Hacve enjoyed your lessons for a long time. Any chance of slipping in some “Ol’ Standard” tunes. Like, Yesterday, Misty, Love For Sale, etc. Maybe some melodies people recognize. Blues lessons are wonderful!!
What a Christmas present! I’m playing a little concert for an assisted living facility in a couple days, and I’ll do my best to “play it forward”. Thank you.
Hi Griff
Thanks for that great Xmas tune and all the videos & tabs you have sent out this year. I really do appreciate your efforts to help & encourage us to improve our goals.
Wishing you and your family a merry Xmas & a happy new year.

Hey Grif, merry Christmas from across the pond in England. As a.drummer learning guitar can I just say how your lessons have helped me. Not just the playing but the tips and knowledge you pass on. Thanks.
Hey Griff,
Just want to thank you for all you’ve done for me this year and to wish you and yours a very happy holiday season.
Now, I’ve got a question for you: What is a good guitar with a really wide neck? My fingers are so big it’s hard to play anything like a Strat, in fact my little finger is the size of most peoples first finger. I’ll buzz something every time I use it. I almost have to play all bar chords. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Ray.
I saw that you mentioned Strat but I did stumble on this the other day that got my attention. It’s acoustic but they specifically target players with larger hands which I also have. I never played one but their website and info look really good. http://www.zagerguitar.com/
Merry Christmas to you and yours, Griff, and thank you for all the lessons. You are the greatest and most stress-free of all the guitar teachers online.
Thanks griff another gem from you you are simply the best now I’ll get down to the hard work of trying to play it. May you and your family enjoy a truly wonderful Christmas and best wishes for a happy and healthy 2015
What a nice arrangement of a well known seasonal tune. Easy on the ears too; mine anyway. I shall endeavour to get it down before airing before my musical family. It was interesting to read that someone wanted you to play rather than describe the piece(s) before segmenting the tutorial(s). To parody a famous saying on this side of the pond: you can please some of the people some of the time yet apparently not all of the people all of the time. Do not feel obliged to revise your teaching methods as a result of such comments. You are one of the best and have shown that to many before now. I wish you and your family a great Christmas. Take a well earned rest and come back to ‘work’ energised. All the best for 2015. Alex.
Will be accompanying my wife Joyce (I play, she sings) at our church’s annual Christmas sing on the evening of December 14th. We will be doing “Silver Bells” along with “Christmas In Dixie” and “Happy Birthday Jesus”.
There are of course others who do solos and we have group sing along numbers so everyone can participate. Added to that we have hot chocolate, cookies and a Blessed time every year.
Thanks Griff and Merry Christmas to you and your family.
griff thanks you so very much for what u have given me and other this years and years before, your band was great at the house of blues weeks back, and would be happy to going see u anytime ,u think santa has infro where and when u play next did not mind the 2 hr ride to see u,u givin me many hours of enjoyment, merry x-mas and happy new years 2 u and your family jimmy
HOW ABOUT TEACHING SOME COUNTRY AND SOME EAGLES SONGS.I AM 72 YEAR OLD AND HAVE A 1972 MARTIN D-28 GUITAR. TED RAMSEY PHONE 618-242-3787.YOUR VERSION OF SILVER BELLS WAS GRATE.THANK YOU.
Hi Griff Thanks for all the lessons you sent us beautiful Christmas song it will be a challenge for me but I will try my best Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Thanks for the Holiday spirit Griff; really pretty arrangement!
Have NEVER played finger style at all, so it’s definitely going to be a challenge. Happy Holidays to you & yours & a great new year too!!!
My guitar teacher has been teaching me to play a great number of songs in this style, which he says is not “finger style,” because (he says) you are not plucking the strings with your fingers.
He calls this style “accompanied melody,” because you are playing the notes of the melody with the pick while allowing the chords of the song to “ring” behind the melody.
I am not a very accomplished guitarist, but I can read sheet music, and I have found that it is easy (for me) to look at the sheet music (with the chords shown) and quickly determine how to play almost any song in accompanied melody. This does not mean I CAN play any song, only that I can see HOW to play it.
Often you need to make minor changes to the fingering of the chord to fit the melody into the chord, but it’s usually “doable.” For example, in the Beatle’s song “Yesterday,” you need an A note for the first note of the song (for which the chord is G), so you simply add the A with your forefinger. I highly recommend this style of playing.
Not a challenge, just follow a G scale. It doesn’t have to be played exactly as Griff showed. Move it up a few frets, find the G notes, and the other notes are all around it.
For some reason I thought about American Trilogy from ‘Aloha from Hawaii’ you should do a James Burton style lesson. I love the intro to American Trilogy. This was a good lesson thanks Griff
Hi! This time you started with playing not speaking. I wish you did it in this way always. I prefer listening to your playing rather then your speaking. Printed tabs and slow playing are all what is needed to learn. Verbal explanations – for most difficult parts. I am not going to teach yo how to make your own lessons but waiting while you finished speaking and played a melody ( just to see what song you are going to present this time) is so boring.
I like your playing and I waited. Now I see that you can do it in much more pleasant way. Please continue!
I disagree. I searched for a while researching other “internet” guitar teachers before settling on Griff. His style and methodology match the way I want to learn perfectly. I gave up on just memorizing tabs to learn a song as I discovered gaps in my knowledge and technique that I should have learned first. If you already have that knowledge or technique, then you can leverage the new stuff further than just memorizing. I’m a bit more analytical and prefer knowing what I should know first, especially as I try more complicated pieces. If you’re bored, you can always just click ahead. Keep it going Griff!!!
GREAT SONG. GREAT TAB SHEET. WHEN I GO TO PRINT IT, MY COMPUTER WANT TO SAVE IT TO A FILE. BUT CAN’T OPEN THE FILE IN WINDOWS. CAN’T PRINT IT FROM THE WEB SITE EITHER.
Thanks Griff! I was wanting to learn a new Christmas song but couldn’t decide what. Silver Bells was perfect. At age 75 my fingers don’t move like they once did, but this one worked well.
Thank you.
Hey Griff, when I received your email on the 20th i practiced as often as I could and on Christmas day I played silver bells all the way through twice and my family loved it, from me and mine to you and yours, Merry Christmas
Instead of strumming the final “G” chord, I play harmonics on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th strings at the 12th, 7th, 5th, 3rd and 2-1/3 frets consecutively and on beat. Try it – it really sounds like bells!
Appropriate for the song.
Thanks Griff for the Silver Bells lesson. Two years ago you sent the one on Elvis Merry Christmas Baby. Last year the link to the Sheryl Crow/Eric Clapton Merry Christmas Baby video. I have saved those and still view them. If possible I would like to save this one (Silver Bells) also but can’t save it on my computer.
I am mostly through the 3rd solo on the 5 Easy Blues Solos and having a lot of fun with that. I recommend that for anyone to learn really good sounding solos quickly.
Any chance you would put a dozen Christmas favs together on a DVD along with a tab sheet. Love Silver Bells and would pay your price to get a nice selection.
Sure would be nice if you could put about a dozen xmas favorites together like Silver Bells and make a DVD and a tab sheet. I`d pay whatever you requested for it. Hope you consider that. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!
Griff, love the leasons, admire your commitment, and am happy to have found the site. Merry Christmas my friend, may the tones carry you on the journey!
Happy holiday to you and your family, and the dogs!
I love the arrangement! Some of the note combinations are so soothing. Especially with the soft bass notes. The song is a bit tricky for me but I am determined to practice until I can get through it without a mistake. Then I plan on playing it for my wife on Christmas day.
Thanks for all of the email videos throughout the year.
I look forward to them.
Hey Griff… thanks for the many lessons you send out. I have learned a lot from them. Hope you and your family have a Blessed Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
Very nice melody, I have had a couple re-plants on my right hand so finger picking is not an option but I enjoyed the vid. Have a very groovy Christmas holiday!
All the best to you in the coming year! I have been a member of your site for several years now and I continue to enjoy your wonderful online lessons.
In my view, you are in the top 10 of all guitar teachers!
Silver Bells will be my on my to do list for the days ahead!
I love this arrangement. I haven’t finger pick in a long time so it is a little rough for me but I know I will get it back. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year to you and your family.
Excellent video Griff thanks. Have you thought about developing another aspect to your teaching lessons and bringing out more videos along these lines for us acoustic players to help us develop? The PDF is also a valuable help
Merry Xmas
Great song for the holidays. Griff, you and your family have a very merry Christmas and a Happy New year. Thank you for all you do. Looking forward to see what you have for 2014. God bless.
thanks griff a great idea to show us this solo. more please if you can.
all the best to you and your family for the festive season.
as a scot i say lang mae yer lum reek!!!
Hi Griff, Thanks for the great lesson. May you and yours have a Merry Christmas! Looking forward to learning better guitar and getting the dragon tamed.
I couldn’t agree more with all the positive feedback – a beautiful and manageble arrangement. Thanks for the Christmas gift, Griff!!! I have been working with BGU for nearly a year and it has been a wonderful journey accentuated with many extras like this quick lesson. And Happy Holidays to my fellow Bluesians!!
I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE JINGEL BELLS ROCK/ HOW COME YOU DIDN’T USE YOUR TAYLOR ACOUSTIC.? STILL LIKE THE SONG AND YOUR LESSONS MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND FAMILY. I’VE ALWAYS HAVE KNOWN THE CHORDS TO SILVER BELLS. THIS REALLY MAKES THE SONG SOUND BETTER, JUST I CAN’T SING WHILE PICKING OUT THE MELODY. MY PROBLEM. AFTER PLAYING IT A 100 TIMES, MAYBE THEN I’LL BE CORDENATED ENOUGH TO SING AND PLAY YOUR WAY. GOD BLESS!
you are really good, i got the taps and the video, i will save, to be sure
i’m doing the tune right. very good, and most of all, i wish you and your family a very merry christmas and a happy new 2014 year!!!!
I really enjopyed hearing you play it as it is one of my favorites. Thanks for the wonderful lesson. Wishing you and yours a Very Merry Christmas and A Healthy, Prosperous, Happy New Year.. Thanks for all your great lessons Griff. God bless, Dianna
Thanks, and merry christmas………..Ilive in Griffithstown but everyone calls it griff……neat?……too much pre christmas wine I reckon to think there is any significance in that ha ha.
Thanks Griff.
I certainly enjoyed your rendition.
As others have remarked, the TAB was not downloadable.
Perhaps one of your techie team can resend it ?
I would like to wish you and yours a great time on Christmas Day and the rest of your ‘down time’.
As usual, masterfully done! Thank you for sharing that with us. I so enjoy listening to your lessons and maybe, with enough practice, I will be able to play like this! A very merry Christmas to you and yours!
Merry Christmas to everyone!
Thanks for the Christmas song. I don’t know if I will get down in time for Christmas! Blues Guitar Unleashed, your so wonderful!
Hey Griff, thanks for the tune. Could you please give us a lesson and a video on a good version of “I’ll be home for Christmas”. That would be awesome.
Great tune, very melodic and tab works ok here. keep up the good work Griff. Just been playing around with A couple of great old blues numbers. Nobody wants you when your down and out(changed a few notes that Eric C play and How long blues by leroy Carr, lovely tunes and you can add your own touches to them, never though i would be able to play these old songs but thanks to you Griff, I have learnt so much. All prasies for your teaching. Merry xmas
Thanks Griff,
A great lesson, as always you inspire me to work a little harder. Merry Christmas to the best guitar player and teacher on the planet. I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season.
Regards,
Ray
Griff, just discovered your video’s. What a refreshing approach, and so very easy to follow. I’ve been playing rythm guitar for about 40 years and never ventured into leads,,,, now I are doing it ! Again , Thank you for you video’s and time. Have a Merry Christmas, and a Happy new year !
Hey Griff, Merry Christmas to all! The gift of great lessons all year would stuff many stockings and I really appreciate your teaching style. Looking back, I really see an improvement in everything I do, or TRY, to do on the guitar. Happy a holidays to you and your family all of your happy students. Thanks Santa!! Don in New York
Absolutely beautiful, and so perfect for this time of year. This is a melody which will please all my visitors during the festive season. Thanks a million Griff. Have a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, happy, and successful 2014.
Hey Y’all, great video. I went to Kareoke Christmas tunes on iTunes and if I found a song I liked, I’d download it and play the guitar melody in place of a singing part. It’s like a Christmas “track”. Helps with timing and fun. The trick is to have the right key of the song. It also helped my grandson by making it fun and “relatively” easy. Just thought I’d share.
Hey Griff,
I’ve always loved playing this Christmas Classic on guitar but it was either by chords or by melody, never together. This is an excellent arrangement. Kudos and thank you. I’m having the same problem as everyone else retrieving the tabs even by right clicking the tabs here. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Ditto on the 404 but, if I can wait for Christmas Eve, I can wait for some tab! 😉 I think this will help me improve my finger-picking, too. Thanks and Merry Christmas, Griff!
tab error, but i am a beginner and have plenty of blank tab sheets,so i just listened to griff (and watched)the video and “viola” transcribed it into TAB notation.need i mention that it took an hour and a half. but guess what?? it was worth every minute, thanks Griff, excellento as usual .Raytuned88…..merry x-mas to all!!!!!
Griff, thanks for this lesson on a classic Christmas song. The only one I know is Silent Night, fingerstyle. I do stumble with it a little. You explain this song very well. I will keep practicing until I get it. Merry Christmas Griff,to you and your family. Mike
Griff , thank you so much , This is simply great. What a kind gesture for this Blessed time of year. Bless you Griff ,hope you have a grand time this Christmas . Really great lesson .

Hi Griff,
Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
MAYBE I CAN LEARN IT BY CHRISTMAS OR TURKEY DAY ANY WAY
Griff,
This is great. I can finally play something.
If you ever get a chance, I would sure like a simple version of “Suicide is Painless” – MASH theme.
Happy Holidays and keep up the terrific lessons.
The MASH theme is on the guitar app with the yellow pick symbol. I think there is at least 50 good tabs of the SIP song
HAVE A BLESSED CHRISTMAS

Based upon the number of responses to this lesson perhaps you should consider doing a holiday style course for next year!

Very nice arrangement. I always like Christmas songs best done in a simple arrangement. Merry Christmas.
Thanks griff another gem from you you are simply the best now I’ll get down to the hard work of trying to play it. May you and your family enjoy a truly wonderful Christmas and best wishes for a happy and healthy 2015
Great song great rendition, Merry Christmas to you all
What a nice arrangement of a well known seasonal tune. Alex.
Hi Griff,
Will be accompanying my wife Joyce (I play, she sings) at our church’s annual Christmas sing on the evening of December 14th.
Old School and Still Rockin’…Gary

Really nice, tasteful arrangement. I am new to your community and would like to say that I am happy I joined, well worth the cost.
Thanks griff , Hope I can play it like that at xmas.Hope you and all your family have a great xmas, and a happy new year.
Very interesting video. Thank you for sharing.
Great song. Very nice!
Very nice guitar lesson. Thakns for share.
I agree with Mikhall, I get more benefit if I see/ hear the final lesson the way it should be played and then begin breaking down the lesson.
Keep it going Griff!!!
hey griff.thanks 4 silver bells.like the new axe.c u in 2014.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxroger…….
GREAT SONG. GREAT TAB SHEET. WHEN I GO TO PRINT IT, MY COMPUTER WANT TO SAVE IT TO A FILE. BUT CAN’T OPEN THE FILE IN WINDOWS. CAN’T PRINT IT FROM THE WEB SITE EITHER.
nice take on the song ,i changed the tempo n phrasing alittle for a more bluesy feel with the meloncoly feel u gave it, very cool thanks enjoy new yrs
Thanks Griff! I was wanting to learn a new Christmas song but couldn’t decide what. Silver Bells was perfect. At age 75 my fingers don’t move like they once did, but this one worked well.
Thank you.
Merry Christmas to Everyone.
Thanks for the emails Griff, must make practicing more a new years resolution,
Jack
Thanks and have a Merry Christmas
Thanks Griff for the great holiday tune I enjoyed it. I was able to learn it for he holidays. Keep up the great work.
Love this style of guitar . Its beautiful music . Could listen all day. Merry Christmas and thank you for the lessons .
Griff, love the leasons, admire your commitment, and am happy to have found the site. Merry Christmas my friend, may the tones carry you on the journey!
Ho Ho HO Griff,
Happy holiday to you and your family, and the dogs!
Have a safe and healthy New Year.
Take care,
Gary

GOD BLESS!

Nobody wants you when your down and out(changed a few notes that Eric C play and How long blues by leroy Carr, lovely tunes and you can add your own touches to them, never though i would be able to play these old songs but thanks to you Griff, I have learnt so much. Great job!! Tab link doesn’t work..
As with the others. The TAB would be useful.
Love this song. I’ll wait for the tab. That helps allot. Thanks and Merry Christmas
tab error, but i am a beginner and have plenty of blank tab sheets,so i just listened to griff (and watched)the video and “viola” transcribed it into TAB notation.need i mention that it took an hour and a half. but guess what?? it was worth every minute, thanks Griff, excellento as usual .Raytuned88…..merry x-mas to all!!!!!
I’m having the same problem as Fred Gardner (ABOVE COMMENT). message Error.
Did you try right clicking on the link? That worked for me.
Nope; right clicking doesn’t work. Still 404 error message.
This melody is really cool stuf
I hope you will fix the link to the TAB before Christmas.
Thanks…………Lionel
Great lesson Griff I will enjoy learning that thank you so much and a very Merry Christmas to you and your family
Hey Griff, really appreciate all your on line gifts of guitar lessons. This one as you’ve already been commented to doesn’t have any tabs
Griff, thanks for this lesson on a classic Christmas song. The only one I know is Silent Night, fingerstyle. I do stumble with it a little. You explain this song very well. I will keep practicing until I get it. Merry Christmas Griff,to you and your family. Mike
