John Mayer has made a successful career for himself as a guitarist in multiple styles of music.  Mayer has become an established name as a blues guitarist and has had even more success as a player in the pop world.  Regardless of the style of music, Mayer has developed his own style of playing that can transcend the style of music and is recognizable as a style unique to John Mayer.  I found three videos that feature John Mayer playing the blues with two of the best blues guitarists in the business, B.B. King and Buddy Guy.  Plus there’s a video from Mayer’s blues trio that is sure to please as well.  I hope you enjoy these videos as much as I did!

Might as well start out with the king of the blues, B.B. King.  Mayer and King performed together at the Guitar Center King of the Blues competition, performing the classic blues song, “Sweet Little Angel.”  Check it out here at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jv6J2aQo2rk.

Next, John Mayer performs with another one of the great blues guitarists, Buddy Guy.  Mayer and Guy put on a killer performance at one of Mayer’s shows in which Mayer plays a pretty killer guitar solo.  Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hF2HAHaATs0.

Lastly, the John Mayer Trio plays some raw blues in this last video.  I get a kick out of how powerful this trio sounds together when they play the blues.  See what I’m talking about at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWv3cZOBgpM.

John Mayer has made quite an impact on the blues guitar world, in addition to his music in the pop and rock worlds.  I think it’s pretty cool how John Mayer has been successful in multiple genres of music and established his own unique style of guitar playing.  I hope you enjoyed the videos as much as I did!

Thanks,

Griff

Hi, I too was fairly recently introduced to JM’s “Blues side” and to say I’m hooked (on LA Live especially!) is an understatement! Not a major fan of ALLof his ‘Pop’ stuff, but you’ve got to admire the guy’s ability to just switch between genres with such ease, not to mention his vocal pitch!!

Ps: Although I’m not in a position (yet) to buy your package, I’m also a massive BGU fan Griff and live for your next lesson…may you and JM, Keep em Commin…..!! Cheers.
