John Scofield is known primarily as a jazz fusion guitarist, but he’s got a few cool videos exploring the blues.  I found two videos that feature more of a traditional blues form played in traditional John Scofield fashion.  It’s a bit of a departure from the usual blues guitarists I write about, but I’ve always felt it’s important to explore other styles of guitar to find inspiration for your blues playing.  Writing about John Scofield is just one more example of a great versatile guitarist that can play in a variety of music styles including jazz, blues and fusion music.  I hope you enjoy these videos featuring guitarist, John Scofield playing the blues.

John Scofield is known mostly as a jazz fusion guitarist, but I found a couple videos that feature him playing more of a traditional blues style.  This first video picks up the tempo a little bit as the John Scofield Trio (Steve Swallow on bass and Bill Stewart on drums) plays a song entitiled, “Trio Blues.”  Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agRfAZ5eACE&feature=related.

In this next video, John Scofield performs a traditional blues form in his own way.  I really enjoy the note choices he makes in this video and I’m sure you will too.  Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ler4KKEcHDY&feature=related.

I hope you enjoyed these videos from jazz, blues and fusion guitarist John Scofield.  I think it’s pretty cool when guitarists of Scofield’s caliber are well studied and can approach styles of music out of their traditional element and put their own twist on it. To me that’s inspiring.

Thanks,

Griff

Not much into the ‘fusion’ thing myself but the traditional video is fantastic, also love impromptu performances, which give great insight into how the artist is thinking. Thanks for sharing!
