I can’t help it… more and more I realize that I am a true fan of the Texas electric blues. Cats like SRV and Eric Johnson might be the guys from my generation, but I gotta give some love to some of the greats like Otis Rush, Albert Collins and Freddie King. I know there are a bunch more, but we’ll stick with these guys for now. What style/state/city has inspired you most?? There are plenty out there from the early Chicago blues, maybe some St. Louis is more your vibe, or perhaps you got into the soulful New Orleans sound, or maybe Texas is your thing too. There are even the country blues cats out of the Appalachian trails that might be your thing. Whatever it is, I bet it talks right to your soul. Here are some of the greats slingers that have inspired so much of my sound and feel. Enjoy!

As I’m putting together songs for my set lists, I can’t help but find Otis Rush is the songwriter behind them. Check out this classic recording at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJ-jdL5xwi4.

Then there’s the great Albert Collins. I’ve shared a lot from him, but I just came across this gem at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tJxsGchPSM.

Now we hail to the king… Mr. Freddie King. Watch the man do his thing at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdyvPg0c6bI.

These might just be a few of the great slingers to come out of Texas, but they’re some of my favorites. Don’t forget to share some of the cats that have influenced your playing most!

Thanks,

Griff

Coach Bieste (Dot-Marie Jones) enters and asks all the teachers
to draw names for the Secret Santas. Your vocal teacher as
such should be able to tell you what you need and be able
to communicate the solutions to your vocal needs clearly.
This feature also makes a singing lesson on DVD feel more personalized.

I noticed that Otis is playing a right handed guitar left handed . Jimi Hendrix played left also and Paul McCartney plays the bass like that also. Just a couple of influnces in my playing. I also miss SRV and Gary Moore too. Their influence for music will be missed . Do you remember what and where you were when you got the news of their passing . Well I was at work when I heard about SRV and I still feel bad when I think about it. HEY what about Johnnie lee Hooker? oH if anyone has seen some of my comments I made a mistake about the band Texas Flood its a connecticut band. the lead guitarist name is not steve its Jeff . He plays guitar dresses up on stage to look like SRV and he plays so good if you close your eyes while he plays you would swear its SRV. lots of luck to all out here reaching for some glory playing . Hey its ok to get emotional on stage the crowd eats it up right away . You will get the eb gbs the first time you play out to a crowd but it goes away fast once they whistle and clap for you. late as they say in callie .

Love the Chicago style and some of the Texas. I love playing along with Eric Clapton, JJ Cale, Albert Cummings, and Lonni Mack. I know they are not real, real old school blues artist, but they play a lot of their hits. My favorite cd too play along with is JJ Cale and Eric Claptons (Road to Escondido).
