To be clear, if you’re one of those SRV tone chasers who is going to obsess over the type of string and cable Stevie used… this isn’t for you.

But if you’re just going to be playing a couple of SRV style songs, and need a tone that’s in the ballpark, and you don’t want to have to go buy a bunch of pedals or amps to do it – then this is for you!

Similarly, if you want to learn about what is involved in crafting this type of tone (and therefore learn more about crafting other types of tones) then you may find this useful and informative.

I stuck around for the full 24 minutes and got most of what you were talking about. my strat was plugged into my little Blackstar amp and after a few adjustments (particularly the bass impact) I got some of the best sounds that have ever come out of this combination. great lesson/instructions many thanks !!

I read some years ago that SRV used 13 – 52 gauge strings which also will influence a guitar’s tone. But you need strong hands and fingers if you want to bend them like he did!

Pretty sure that he usually tuned a half step down, which probably helped some. He also had gigantic hands, which probably helped even more.

Dear Griff, what would be you first pedal to use?.

For me, something like a blues driver for some overdrive at any volume.

That was an awesome lesson Griff the sound was great thank you . I also like the riffs you were doing. Any chance you have them in TAB ?
