Every once in a while I get the pleasure of getting together in person with one of my Blues Guitar Unleashed students… and in this case I was able to get him to agree to let the cameras roll!

Pete was out here on a layover (he’s a pilot) and we took a bit of time in the studio and played a little blues, and he did a great job despite the pressure.

Now Pete’s been pretty diligent for the past few years with me, and it shows. He’s playing great and I hope this might inspire you a little bit today.

Very nice. How long has Pete been playing? He displayed very good control, acting like a pro. I could hear part of the 4 notes solo…I don’t feel ready for this kind of display. Thanks for sharing.

    • Jack Flash

Still working on my speed maybe it will get better but I liked it alot. I kinda get into the ZONE when I practice and try to be on key without looking…

      Hi Griff & Pete,
The word is FANTASTIC..and what an excellent encouragement for Griff to show off a very talented BGU’er and Pete your tips are very common.. with me, “Being able to change the Pitch & Key to the BGU Solos and knowing where the Root note is. I simply loved the way you were naturally focused on the Ad Lib of the solo, just a mind blowing experience. So Cool. Griff, it would be an enormous feature if we could see more of these types of Jams with your local USA BGU’ers students in your email lessons. I have watched this video with Pete over and over and I think it is much better to see you actually playing with a student like Pete… the effect is enormous. I am so glad that I have a lot of the BGU courses in my Road Map for blues guitar.. it would be great if you could produce your Solos in different keys.

Congrats Pete for such a wonderful inspiration for Blues Guitar for us BGU students.

        Hi Griff & Pete,
It would be great to see more of your ( Griff & Pete & others Live BGU Jams) as I noticed your cap BGU Live 2015!!
I started with Griff & BGU in 2013 as a guitar beginner after 12 months of learning guitar with a local teacher every week. The end of this year 2016 I am approaching the big 70 going on 40years in mind and health. I will be jamming with 2 other BGU’ers in Sept 2016. I have most of the BGU courses in my Road Map and now have 5 Electric Guitars etc but just want to learn a few Blues songs. Pete which ones did you learn first?

        All Fantastic

      Go Pete!
      Great job man!
I thought you really loosened up as you got into it and I liked the stuff that wasn’t rehearsed better!
Shows how Grif’s stuff really does give you the foundations to – fly!
Nice to have a pro back off and back up for you eh.
      Good one guys!

      • Brendan

There could be hope for me yet, great job. I love the blues!!!

Totally echo lead comment from Kevin — this one’s a great motivator; love to see more like this.

    • Kevin

Griff, would be nice to see this concept repeated every once in a while with some of your students

Been playing for 60 years read up on every thing out there That was a good video

    • Jim Donovan

Hey Griff, and Pete, great job guys. It was excellent looking at a fellow player rather that a pro. Griff, you’re a teacher, and a performer. I watched Pete playing and, he was working to keep it right. You could see the concentration on your face. You were awesome. It was a bit of inspiration for me to work harder on the BGU courses,
Exactly as planned Griff, thanks guys.

    • Joyce

Great job! Very inspiring, thank you!

    • Derrick V Lahey

I have so much respect for like in this case your self when you guys was just getting her going and your buddy here was little of the mark/ timing is you show a disappointment for just a few seconds my point is your the pilot you took the controls reset the timing like it gave your buddy so much confidence then you have him back wheelhouse he walked through it and threw in a little extra and for your professionalism attitude of great patience, respectively encouraged self confidence by ten fold and this great example of a teaching/ test earns u with respect ” The Touch of Class AWARD I HAVE a acoustic self thought and play no lead Good Job!!!!

    • Pete R

Thanks for all the great compliments. That was a day that I won’t forget for the rest of my life. And yes, I have attained that level from studying Griff’s courses. They work.

      • Gregg W

Great job Pete! I think I had as much fun watching your experience as you! I’ve been playing for a long time and this video reminded my why I picked up the guitar in the first place…to HAVE FUN. Keep it up, Pete!

    • Mike Krol

Awesome job, Pete! I’ve been playing for a little less than 3 years and follow Griff religiously, have all of his courses. Like you said, SBS was a real eye opener for me, can now play along with a jam track and not hit many bad notes, actually sounding pretty good (at least according to my family). Perhaps not quite at your level yet, but your video has inspired me, I hope catching up with you is just around the corner… Well done, men!
      Mike

    • John

Far out Pete, you killed it. Put some inspiration in my tank. Thanks.

    • Jody Miller

Loved it and very inspiring. Pushes me to work a little harder.

      Jody

    • Ravi

Well done Pete! That was Brilliant. Could we have another video of you playing blues beyond the 12th fret (the dusty end of the fretboard) to make the guitar scream a bit more.

    • MikeSRC

Great playing by Pete as usual! Have to see if I can learn some of that solo before Memphis.

    • mark

Good stuff! Thanks for the inspiration!

    • Gary Hunt

Very well done Pete…!! Keep on rocking …!!

    • Jack Fioramonti

that was a beautiful moment , just what you and Pete were doing is whats giving me so much trouble , I’ve got my scales and boxes , and caged , and more cords than i ever understood before , my hands are like married now muscle memory is great , and i owe most of so much I have learned to you Griff , but it is very weird right now , I’ve got all this beautiful knowledge floating around in my head but its just not in the pocket yet , It feels like its right around the corner , I will just keep going at it little bites at a time until I get there LOL , learning the how the cord breaks down with the root -5th-3rd-root -5th-root ,, helped a lot ,, but now its just getting my old brain to put all this stuff in the pocket LOL , please never stop what you are doing here , I own about 10 of your courses and love learning from you .
      Great video you guys ,
      Jack

    • Tony Dyrsmid

That was very inspiring. Pete looked very relaxed an played like a pro. Griff, you should be proud. Cheers, Tony

      Griff,
Enjoyed you and Pete jamming live together.
Does your forum have a list of members sorted by each members city?
It would be great to get get together with someone and jam together live, instead of only practicing to backing tracks.
I think this could benefit a lot of members….. If already available, please point me in the right direction!

    • Rick Verlander

Enjoyed it …and brings hope if you keep at it! I do not see any course offered named “Solos From The Masters”….where is it?

    • Alyn Smith

That was a real good effort guys, well done.

    • John

Special thanks to Pete for sharing that with us. And, it’s great to see the master comping for his student. That kind of insight is so very hard to come by. Brave Pete.

    • RILonghorn

Griff and Pete, That was awesome and so very timely! I am currently working on SFTM #3, Freddie King and am also using Skinny Legged Woman as the jam track. I have been using your Blues Solo Construction Kit (BSCK) along with the SFTM series to learn the solos and then use them across many of the BGU Jam Tracks. The BSCK has really opened my eyes into how to improvise and use various licks to build your own solos and incorporate them into various songs. It is great to see a fellow BGUer get some time with the Master and to hear you both jam together! Keep up the great work!

    • tommytubetone

Great job you guys. Do you need a volunteer to fill the third slot in your group at BGU LIVE? ?

    • Mark Center

Just for fun, an example of playing solos from one song over another:

Pete , you played very well with Griff. I think that is a great way to really learn how to play along with someone . I have a good friend who is a great guitar player , and a year ago I tried to play along , but I was so excited, I lost my place . Thanks for sending this video Griff . Mike Z.

    • Legoge47

    • tony

I have to say that was pretty good . Makes Me want to get a looper . That is so I can devolop a solo or solos of My own. I been playing out but nothing recent . Times change and so do poeple and their lives . My band has broken up and now will be searching for something new. This pal the pilot mentioned roots and knowing where they are. Nailed it and I could hear where He was making up stuff of His own . Thanks for the video! INSPIRING .

    • Dave

Respect to Pete, I just freeze up playing in front of folk. My mind just goes blank and i cant follow the chord sequence unless i`m drunk but then my technique flies out of the window. Wish i had the confidence to play in public like that, whats worse is i used to play in a band and loved being onstage…dunno what happened! 🙂

    • DaveyJoe

Great example guys! Have fun in Memphis.

      • Sonny

The voice of raatynilito! Good to hear from you.
