So now that I’m in the great state of Texas prepping for the show tomorrow night at the Allen Blues Festival, my inner Texas blues man is definitely starting to show. I thought it would be cool to throw together a little “ode to Texas blues guitarists” for y’all to enjoy. Now I know these three players don’t come close to covering the huge array of talent this state has produced, but they are some of the big ones. I thought I would share a little Johnny Winter, some SRV, and one of the original kings, Freddie King. There are plenty more out there, but we’ll get it started with these three. Enjoy!!

Johnny Winter has been touring the world his entire life and can still be seen on stage today. Check out some of his classic slow blues chops with “Be Careful With A Fool” at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Tyg5SJDpiQ.

Then there’s one of the most celebrated Texas blues guitarists of all time, the one and only Stevie Ray Vaughan. Check out this classic take on “Voodoo Chile” from Austin at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvtkUd0kkhU.

Lastly, the only king to come out of Texas, Mr. Freddie King. Still one of the greatest in my humble opinion. Enjoy “Big Legged Woman” at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BXZbvn8qJs.

I hope you’re all feeling a little bit of that Texas blues juice coursing through your veins. I know I am. Stay tuned for more coming your way at Blues Guitar Unleashed.

Thanks,

Griff
