I don’t need to start filling you in on what Eric’s been up to lately, since you probably know it all better than I do, but what I dig is he’s still playing the blues, still helping out young musicians get the fame they deserve, and even coming out with some new music. I wrote this post simply out of enjoyment and to recognize some of the cool performances he’s done lately that have stuck out to me. A few years ago, he went out on the road with his old friend and organist Steve Winwood, even played a show together at the Crossroads Guitar Festival 2010, then he performed one of the cooler versions I’ve heard of “Crossroads” at the Hurricane Sandy Relief Concert in 2012. I gotta say I’m not only jealous of the man’s chops, but the cool places he gets to play too. I hope you dig watching some of these memorable performances too. And feel free to share some that stuck out to you recently too!
Clapton toured with his friend Steve Winwood a few years ago. I really enjoyed this behind-the-scenes solo performance of “Ramblin’ On My Mind,” at Madison Square Garden. Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8FyHMI8W4A.

He and Steve Winwood put together a great band to play at the Crossroads Guitar Festival in 2010. Enjoy this rendition of “Voodoo Chile Blues,” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zA4TIFS3yzo.

Lastly, one of the better versions I’ve heard of “Crossroads,” was performed by Eric Clapton, Willie Weeks, and Steve Jordan at the Hurricane Sandy Relief concert in 2012. Check it out here at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtopE0IeBao.

“go cat go”
I was the tea boy/tape operator when he did demos with cream in 67. Such an inspiration then and to think still after all these years(I am not counting!!). Thanks Griff.
nice picks griff thats cool
Great finds Griff. I agree about this version of Crossroads. I like it MUCH better than the Cream version.
Just a fantastic performer, Great inspiration and certainly one of my heroes! I just couldn’t imagine where the Blues (Or Music!) would be today if Eric hadn’t come along!
He has really stayed in touch! I can only imagine the thoughts of Brothers,Sisters…children…whose spirits he channels!!
The drummer is Steve Gadd. Dr. Steve Gadd. And Clapton…simply the best. Put aside all the players who can shred, play fast, whatever…Clapton can say more with a note or two than all the shredders combined. The blues are a feeling.
My God, Voodoo Chile, I forgot that, song with Steve Winwood and Eric. I am sorry but that just rings all of my bells. That for me is where I have always wanted to be musically. That is just so over the top. I wish I knew the drummers name, he was and is so together with Eric and Steve, it is almost un-natural, Thank you so much for this, I am blown away. Jim
