In the last few years I’ve been hearing this new name around the blues music scene… Joanne Shaw Taylor. Come to find out she’s been a part of the music scene since she was 16 years old; she was invited to go on tour with Dave Stewart and has since then released a couple of her own records. All that to say that now she is really turning some heads at blues festivals all around the world. She even just played in my backyard at the Doheny Blues Festival in Southern California on the same stage as Joe Bonamassa, the Tedeschi Trucks Band and plenty of other top names in the blues music charts. I figured it was a good time to invest some of my time into checking out what she’s been throwing down, and thanks to all the content available online, I found some good stuff to share with you as well. I collected a few videos from the last few years featuring this powerhouse guitarist and a lovely frame. Enjoy!
The first video takes us back in time to 2009 at the Leamington Spa Assembly Rooms. Don’t ask me where that is… Check out one of her tracks “Blackest Day” at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvZc3iZE6kU.

Next up, check out this live track called “Time Has Come,” featuring Joanne again in the rockin’ trio setting… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUNHIEX3XxA.

Lastly, Joanne adds some keys to this mix from this 2013 performance at Bluesmoosfest. Check out “Jealousy” at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bCFuJKxbSI.

I hope you dug listening to Joanne Shaw Taylor. She’s all over the blues hot spots these days so make sure to catch her at a music festival near you. There’s more coming your way from Blues Guitar Unleashed, so stay tuned.
Thanks,
Griff

One of the Top women in the Blues Guitar industry 🙂 I like her playing, a lot!
I saw Joanne at The Scarborough Blues club in Scarborough a couple of years ago fantastic, don’t miss her,
Has a pretty good voice for her age to sing the blues. With a few more years of practice and singing she should be doing quite well at this.
She is very good though – thanks for the links.
Tut tut Griff – ROYAL Leaminton Spa is in Warwickshire in England.
Ian
Thank you Griff for turning us on to this outstanding young talent. Looking forward to seeing a lot more of her in the future. Blessings
Hey Griff,
She is amazing in singing, playing and pretty ez on the eyes..
Saw her a couple of years ago at our local Blues Festival. WOW she stole the show hands down, people where talking about her all weekend and even the next year…
She had another lady playing drums OMG…. amazing and the band was tight tight
Make no mistake this girl has got it going on…!!!
Saw her play with another great guitar player, Bart Walker. See has great tone and plays excellent solos. Better than average voice also
PS Assume Leamington Spa Assembly Rooms in Warwickshire United Kingdom, a music venue not usually noted for blues performances. Unless there is one of the same name in California?
Talented lady! Moody voice and great guitar style. Enjoyed listening to these, thank you.
Great article Griff! I’ve been listening to her and following her on FB for the last couple of years or so! I do like her!
