Musicians are known for releasing Christmas recordings this time of year, so I put a few videos together for you this Christmas season. But I thought I would find recordings that were done earlier than Clapton, Vaughan, and Setzer. I collected a series of videos from the early Texas and Delta Blues legends. Take a look and listen to some great early blues recordings of Christmas songs past. Enjoy!
The first video comes from Charley Jordan and is called, “Christmas Christmas Blues.” Check it out…
The next video comes from an early Texas blues favorite, Blind Lemon Jefferson. This tune is called, “Christmas Eve Blues.”
The last of the early blues recordings in this post is from Blind Blake in 1929. His recording is called, “Lonesom Christmas Blues.”
Now for this next video, I jumped forward a few years to 1961. Freddie King recorded a song called, “Christmas Tears.”
And finally, a little modern Christmas blues from Joe Bonamassa
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and yours!

It wasn’t a feeble attempt Griff!!!! It was great!! Really enjoyed those. I could hear the old creaky windmill, and see the tumbleweeds blowin by during those older recordings.

Had a borrowed guitar like Freddies 59 SG W A Bigsby sway bar, luv that sound .
kinda of skipped to Joe B that other stuff is too old . A gut string guitar seems outta tune most likely is cause they did not have a tuner back in the day , Any way Happy Holidays to all in BGU land and to the Hamlin family . Most likely to be playin the the blues cause i havent had a real Christmas in many years .
HI Tony,I felt like you too & then I went back & listened to those other songs -all of them- it gave me a little more appreciation for how far the music industry & sound has come ! We live in a place called Waukesha, Wisconsin about twenty ,miles west of Milwaukee, 60 east of Madison, have you ever heard of a man called Les Paul ? He was born & raised & now came back home to be buried here. He was instrumental (no PUN intended)to dubbing & layered recording techniques. His is a very interesting life,if you ever wish to visit, they have two museums that have his stuff one in Milwaukee & the other out here.We own the ONLY bicycle shop in town going on 22 years old ,so all know where we are and we would be happy to show you around ! Maybe even on a NEW E-assist I-ZIP electric assist bike. Maybe listen to those songs, if you can find the time. YOU, my new friend, try,to have a Merry Christmas, we have a child that had two open heat surgeries ,we know from experience what is really important in life.God made you & loves you & me & we care about you too so ,go PLAY your guitar, it IS o.k.IF IT is THE Christmas Blues-ENJOY ! & Happy New Year too !-Kim
