I guess you could think of this as kind of a “tapping 101” type of video….

There are *gobs* of things you can do with tapping, but these are a couple of my favorites, and things that you might want to try if you’re new to the technique.

Would you use it over a slow blues? Probably not, but for hard rock, it is absolutely essential!

So give it a try and let me know which patterns work best for you….

Stanley Jordan. The Chapman Stick. Advanced tapping.

I saw Billy Gibbons do some tapping back in the mid 1970s before EVH began to exploit the technique. BG probably copied it from one of his predecessors so tapping has been around for a while. It’s a fun tool to add to your arsenal.

T-Bone walker and Otis Rush were doing it way, way back before rock was even thought of. This is nothing more than advanced and refined methods of age old techniqes used by the pioneers of electric guitar.

Tapping gets boring if you don’t mix it up with creative lead runs, and make it sound a bit original. Like when everybody used to play VH Eruption. Got old fast

As for bluesers who tap, two words. Paul Rose
