It’s one thing to learn your 5 boxes of the pentatonic/blues scale…
It’s another to be able to navigate between them effortlessly. And one of the best ways I’ve found to visualize the connections between the boxes are something I call pentatonic “hinges.”
If you can see the connecting notes between the shapes and play them, you’ll be better able to use either one at any time for a variety of different sounds.

We all learn differently. Me? I need to understand a Big Picture. And am helpless until it Clicks. So I am overwhelmed by all the colored dots on a fretboard map. “Hinge” is a concept that was a light bulb for me organizing the positions! Thanks for a great teaching tool for this student!
