I like this because of the “thump bass” going in the right hand, and if that’s something you’ve maybe tried before but have had a hard time with it, I hope you’ll try this one.
The key, as always, is to count out loud and get the melody down first.

Maybe something’s wrong with me, but especially with a song this simple and straightforward…uh…counting just throws me off.
Seriously, I have NO TROUBLE just going by sound & feel.
When you were demonstrating the melody without the bass thumb, I swear I could feel it I kept thinking I was hearing it, but when I listened closely, I could see that you really were omitting it
Then, you went on to say how “impossible it is” to do it without counting…..
I never count! I’ve learned complex Classical guitar melodies with the bass doing one melody while the upper voice is doing something else…and they each have their own timing. The way I’ve learned it was to listen & follow each one separately, learn it, then put them together. (That’s the complicated part, cuz I have to learn all new fretting to play both melodies at the same time!) But in the end, I get it down.
I respect your expertise and experience, but it’s just easier for me to NOT get distracted by counting. I can easily follow 2 things at once, especially something as simple as this!
Not meaning any disrespect, but that’s just me.
I’m basically with you. I have learned that there are times counting really messes me up. It especially occurs when I have to start on an upbeat versus a downbeat.
However, there are times when I force myself to count to learn a new rhythm that is not ingrained into my muscle memory. I do it just for that phrase or a few bars. Once I’ve got it down I never count it out when playing the song.
Seems like this was a lesson catered to MY never counting …meaning you made it simple so i could actually give it a go…and yet somehow my ignorant ass is still sort of lost ……all bass notes are on down beats (1,2,3,4) and it starts on “a” 3 with melody notes… maybe i could count the melody off , maybe ? Idk It just seems like making music mathematical disagrees with my mind lol ….will keep this email /link and give it a go once this mental block im having subsides 🤷🏼♂️😬
