What I affectionately call, “The House Pattern,” is one of my favorite blues soloing patterns, but it’s one that is so often misunderstood…
It’s not any *one* particular scale, or sound, and with that power comes great responsibility (to use your ears!)
In today’s video I’ll walk you through the pattern and show you how to make changes based on whether you want a “major” or “minor” sound.
If you want to learn more about this particular favorite soloing pattern of mine, visit The House Pattern course at – https://bluesguitarunleashed.com/get-the-house-pattern/

So to clarify – that would normally be part of position 2 B minor pentatonic ? However, because you are just playing a portion of that scale and starting on A as the root note it’s now in A ?
Correct. You can look at it as just moving the A minor house pattern up two frets, which adds two A major pentatonic notes (2nd and 6th).
This is such a great video, and I appreciate you digging in on the major/minor variation. Learned a lot from this one.
Thank you!
Can you use the House Pattern without using any bends…. just play the 5 notes?
If so, when?
Looking forward to trying this! Thanks Griff!
I got the 18 seconds blues
Hi Griff,
Did I miss the half price sale?
I went to purchae the course and it appeared to be on full price.
Is there a code?
Great explanation of a move and shape I can remember and understand.
Thanks Griff.
I like that Griff has put into one place a lot of the ideas he’s shown over the years related to the House (BB box) pattern (ignoring the top of box 2 minor option for the pattern). Note: My video was perfectly in focus. Definitely looking forward to the new course!
Are you the Mark knudsen I worked with at DHS in 2016? Michael Blankenstein.
Great except video is out of focus…. Difficult to see what is being played…..
Just awesome!! Fantastic idea!!
Thanks Griff, you are the man
