Super catchy title today, don’t you think?
Well, I couldn’t come up with anything fun, but it’s really fun to play guitar so grab yours and join me 🙂
There’s no TAB or downloads for this one… just play along!

Can you make it a download, please.
You didn’t demo the rhythm piece. I know the chords are C7, F7 and G7. What kind of strumming pattern do you use?
Any special strum pattern for the C7 F7 G7 rythim?
Have you considered making the 4 minute track into a download?? Not all of us have reliable internet .Otherwise this is a great exercise
This is what I really like! Thanks Griff !
Great way to teach. Helps me a lot. An old Woody Allen (Annie Hall), after a love making session he says, “maybe next time we can swap 4’s.”
Griff, you have a rare ability to take musical concepts and make them approachable. The blues are in my veins and you and your courses have greatly brought my passion to life. I find that bIn review your courses frequently and that is where I have found my musical growth. Thank you for sharing the vastness of your knowledge, passion, and talent.
That was really fun, Griff! I couldn’t follow your exact fingering, but since I know the pattern and have fooled around playing blues lead I just “played along” with you, or did my own soloing. I have a question…whenever I “play along” with a song that has lead guitar in it I’ve noticed I naturally fall into some kind of counter-lead groove. I don’t do this consciously – in fact I wish I could play the melody note for note but that is not my ability. My counter-lead sounds good to me (can get busy). Is there a known facet of musical talent like I’m describing. Some kind of savant brain that can’t do the melody, but can augment the melody – play against the lead? Inquiring pseudo-savant minds want to know! PS – I bought a bunch of your courses a few years ago but haven’t cracked them yet. They are on my list!
That was fun. Saving this to practice with later. Thanks!
Thanks Griff, cheered up a grey lockdown day here in SW UK. Really got into this with two positions of the C minor pentatonic.
Yeah this cleared up a muddy line for me also
Nice one Griff. You really are a very good teacher for all of us out here.
Always a fun thing to do!
Thanks again Griff.

Tiny Baby steps here but enjoyed. Great stuff as usual.
It’s your video…you can name it anything you want. I would have titled it:
Trading 4’s With Griff: Key of C Shuffle using Box 1
Hear how that just rolls off the tongue? No? Oh, well. I thought it was an award winning title. Guess not.
Very cool video. Cool concept. Trading 4’s with Griff is a great way to learn and practice. Thanks for another great video.
Hey at least you thought so
i tried to match you … need more practice
Hey Griff, this lesson was lots of fun to play with. I always try trade 4’s with you every day. It really helps my playing.
Thanks Griff, keep them come’n
Alexander Aliganga
Really enjoyed this one Griff. Great to have the privilege of jamming with the master! Thanks so much.
I Just became a member of BGUN and purchased the Acoustic Blues DVD and Digiatal course (on the way) but I also like the free lessons you provide on Youtube as well. It was fun doing the C-minor pentatonic jam over your video today. Ciao for now
James Waldron (Dr.J)
I find four bars much too long to remember and emulate. So I play along all the time!
Nice smooth playing Griff as all ways. At work so can’t play along. Good thing to keep going from your end as most people did like it. me also.
Thanks Griff,Great Fun

Hey I sounded better than I thought. Let’s do this
Great fun Griff! How about selling those t-shirts!
some tab would be a real help for some of us. Thanks in advancevance.
Very cool way to get into a solo groove. Next – trading fours with yourself. 😉
Hey Griff
it was great. You should do more of these on all kinds of levels.
Thanks
Thanks Griff, That was heaps of fun. I will be coming back to this to keep working on it.
Cheers
Eric
Yeah…what about that t-shirt. I want one too – some BGU swag. You taking orders?
is the right chord progression for this C-F-G?
Yes
C7-F7-G7 to be precise – it is the blues! 🙂
Hey Griff,
I always enjoy your videos and often incorporate your ideas for my students.
Today it was great to play the blues with you !
Thanks,
Tom
I don’t responed very often Griff but this is an excellent way to get into soloing that Iv’e ever heard. Thanks for a great lesson. Love your teaching style.
Fun lesson Griff! And so important for learning to solo. I’ve spent many hours in your VJR doing similar stuff, and “trading 4s” is more of the same fun stuff! Of course, “Live” notches it up a whole other level on the fun meter. Thanks for the jam!
I COULD NOT PLUG MY AMP IN, SO I JUST PLAYED ALONG. I DID SOME SECOND LEAD WHEN I FINALY HEARD THE RTYHUM.
GRIFF, DO YOU NO ANY OF ZZ KILL? LIKE “AM I GROOVING YOU”?I LIKE THE GUY WHO SINGS AND THE TUNE IS BASICALLY ONE CORD. WOULD LOVE TO LEARN IT. HEARED IT ON KJAZZ, 88.1, SUNDAY , THEY PLAY THE BLUES.
Cool, Griff! We did this @ Lake Arrowhead last month @ BGU Live 2018, remember?
THE BEST EVER !!!!!!!
Kewell Bass
Great Lesson
I want a t shirt
Ha-Ha! I just got to trade fours with Griff Hamlin!
Good thing he couldn’t hear me play!
Great thing about THIS video is after I mess up, I can go back and do something that DOES work.
Thanks for the video, Griff.
Oh I forgot to mention the help with timing – as stated earlier, starting on beat two now firmly embedded in my brain!
Good session Griff. Liked the way you barred top two strings at the 8th fret & brushed over them. Really helpful video. I still have trouble with my bends – always shredding my fingertips. Maybe I need a lighter gauge of strings? Thank you Griff.
Griff , I love this lesson . It took me a couple times thru to get a hang of it . I even added a couple bends . Thanks for sending this lesson . Mike Z.
Thanks again for another Trading Fours, I just love this. I would love to see an entire course like this.
Pretty cool Griff pretty cool that was fun thank you
that was a lot of fun man! Thanks, a good pick me up this am
Well….! I surprised myself there! I found myself looking up to see if you were ready to take over!! (You sure woz!) Reckon it’s the “don’t play on beat one” stuff that made me wonder. Also, I became aware of how same-ish I can be…..if I’m not careful. Thanks GH….eye-opener.
Great exercise! I’ll be replaying this one for a while. Thanks,Griff!
Oh my I finally got the feel of the timing.
Great to hear you then have time to play right then ,lm almost 80 I enrolled in your beginner program.
I couldn’t have found a better hobby
