Mike Bloomfield helped re energize the blues in the 1960s.

It must have been really something to have witnessed Mike Bloomfield live on stage in the 60s and 70s. I’ve got a few recordings to go off of from live shows back then, but they can’t capture what it was like to be in the audience during one of his shows. Fortunately, there must be others who agree because I did a little bit of digging and found a show featuring Mike Bloomfield alongside some of the Chicago blues heavyweights like Junior Wells and Muddy Waters. The footage and audio from the show rock just as well as Mike himself. Plus, I found a track from an Al Kooper / Mike Bloomfield jam recording session called Super Session in 1968. Al wrote in some liner notes that he wanted to give Mike the opportunity to really let loose in the recording studio like he did live on stage. The result was Mike’s best selling album. I hope you enjoying hearing from the great Mike Bloomfield and his stellar guitar chops!

Mike Bloomfield played a show back in 1974 with some of the other Chicago blues heavyweights including Junior Wells. See him in action with Junior at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUQygGBJ7Ys.

Lastly, Mike Bloomfield played alongside one of the original masters of the electric blues in Chicago, the great Muddy Waters. Enjoy their performance together at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSVuEjvLjFE.

I hope you enjoyed hearing from the late, great Mike Bloomfield. We definitely lost him way to early, but his music lives on in all of us. There’s more coming your way at Blues Guitar Unleashed, so stay tuned.

Thanks,

Griff
