We lost another one of the great blues guitar slingers just recently. Jimmy Dawkins passed away at the age of 76 on April 10th, and left behind a long list of great records produced throughout his career from 1969 to 2004. I’d like to show the great Chicago blues man some respect by sharing some of his music with you today. Fortunately there were some great videos I could find online that feature Jimmy doing his thing on stage. I found music from the early 1990s, a track from his 1997 album “Me, My Gitar and the Blues,” and a live show from the heart of Chicago in 2005. All are great performances featuring some low down blues and one of the resident Chicago blues men to carry the blues torch all around the world. I hope you dig all the videos as much as I did!
The first video comes from a live performance at the Skopje Jazz Festival in 1991. Check out “You Don’t Love Me,” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0fyZcJ29c4.

Next, I’d like to share one of Jimmy’s original tracks. Enjoy the title track off his album, “Me, My Gitar and the Blues,” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkBUXXbtYPI.

Lastly, Jimmy played in his stomping grounds of Chicago at Vern’s Friendly Lounge, with some other Chicago blues men. Check out this great performance of “My Head is Bald,” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwJdUtP8-t0.

I hope you dug listening to all this music from the late, great Jimmy ‘Fast Fingers’ Dawkins. He will be missed by blues fans all around the world. There’s more coming your way at Blues Guitar Unleashed, so stay tuned.
Thanks,
Griff
