Albert Cummings claims to have been brought up in the SRV school of the blues.

Being the first artist to record a full album with Double Trouble since SRV passed away has go to be a great resume builder. Albert Cummings started out his music career in a pretty intense way when Chris Layton, Tommy Shannon and Reese Wynans backed him up and produced his album, From The Heart. To some this may just seem like a lucky break, but after hearing Albert shred they may think differently. I collected a few videos featuring blues guitarist/singer/songwriter Albert Cummings that I hope you’ll enjoy. Apparently if your name is Albert you’re required to be a blues guitar player.

I figured we would start out with an interview with Albert to get a little bit more insight about his music career and influences. It’s a long video, but there’s some cool stuff in it. Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBHX4dJAJOg.

Albert recorded a killer live version of Robin Trower’s hit song, “Rock Me Baby.” It’s only audio, but check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuZPKHBkFOg.

Lastly, I was able to find a decent video of him playing live. Most of the videos on YT were pretty rough crowd shots, but this gig at Club Helsinki Hudson turned out pretty well. Don’t mind everybody walking in front of the camera though. Enjoy the performance at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTjk4wxmFOY.

I hope you enjoyed all this great material from Albert Cummings. He’s got a pretty slammin’ tone and can definitely shred. There’s more coming your way at Blues Guitar Unleashed so stay tuned.

Thanks,

Griff

When you can close your eyes…and your soul hears the notes instead of the ears, you know you are listening to something special! Somewhere, I heard or read that it’s not only the notes, but the space between the notes that make the music. Pure shredding, in my opinion, fills those spaces with unnecessary noise. Albert Cummings (until now totally off my radar), and SRV and a host of greats can, if they wanted, litter those spaces with that noise, but they choose to surround those spaces with just the right notes, letting those spaces silently scream out the blues. Nicely done
Albert! Thank you for these vids.
And someday, I’ll tell you about my ‘one degree of separation’ from SRV. (If you have a spare hour or two) lol
