Seeing as how love in in the air this time of year, I thought it would be a nice change to write a post about one of the greatest blues women on the music scene today. Susan Tedeschi has been alive and well on the roots and blues music scenes for several years now, both with her own band and joining up with now husband and slide guitarist Derek Trucks, and it doesn’t look like she’s leaving anytime soon. Blessed with a voice similar to a mix between Bonnie Raitt and Janis Joplin, plus some killer guitar chops as well, she is the whole package. I collected a few performances from Susan throughout her years as a blues guitarist and singer that I hope you enjoy as much as I did.
Susan Tedeschi can be seen in this first video with her band, featuring Derek Trucks at the Crossroads Guitar Festival in 2007 performing the hit song, “Little By Little.” Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=YghusXFF5xI#!.

Susan takes lead again in this next video, this time with a powerhouse group including Warren Haynes on guitar and vocals at the Mountain Jam Festival. Unfortunately, Warren’s solo got missed in the mix, but Susan let’s it rip as usual. Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfMoFoDkJDM.

Lastly, Susan returned to the Crossroads Guitar Festival with her current group, The Tedeschi Trucks Band, formed with her husband Derek Trucks. In this video the band performs one of their hit songs, “Midnight In Harlem,” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ubH7dLJJiE.

I hope you enjoyed listening to and watching Susan Tedeschi in a few different bands over her career. I look forward to whatever she puts out next and hope you do as well. There’s more coming your way so stay tuned.
Thanks,
Griff

i stumbled across susan while roaming around utube. she was doing “i’d rather go blind”,and i had goose bumps crawlin’ all over me. the thought that crossed my mind was”the pearl has been reincarnated”! definately a monster blues vocalist!
They make playing and singing the blues so easy and they are so good together. Thanks for the link Griff.
One of my favorite artists. Class all the way!!
I had the chance to see her a couple of times before she made the “A” list….she opened for the Thunderbirds at a local club..enjoyed her show more than Kim Wilson….next time she was the headliner and had Sean Costello on lead…great show both times…no question she was on the way up…later.

Absolutely sublime.
First came across Susan and Derek on tv last year on B B King concert. Would love to see them in the Uk. Love Derek’s playing and Susan can not only play but sure can sing the blues.
Love the solo on “Midnight in Harlem”… quite interesting technique on the SG slide.
