The Oz Noy Twisted Blues Band has defined their own approach to the blues.

Of all the great guitarists that have defined blues guitar over the years, one of lesser known players I seem to gravitate towards is Oz Noy.  I consider Oz Noy’s music to more “blues fusion” than traditional blues as he incorporates quite a bit of jazz fusion elements into his playing.  He and his band, the Twisted Blues Band, have definitely defied traditional blues and found a niche following among genuine guitar music fans for their sense of improvisation and somewhat fusion approach to blues tunes.  I collected a few videos that highlight Oz Noy with his band and some of the gear he uses.  I hope you enjoy this lesser known side of my listening preferences!

The Oz Noy Twisted Blues Band recorded a killer version of the Meters’ classic hit song, “Cissy Strut.”  Check it out here at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCkx5O7zUU0.

Oz Noy uses a lot of gear to achieve his distinct sound (sound familiar?) and he sat down with D’Addario to talk about it.  Check out this video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ng5CmgIwBq0&feature=related.

Lastly, the band produced a song called, “Whole Tone Blues,” which is built using whole notes.  Thus the interesting sound of the melody.  The band plays it live in this last video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZ03dUQt0XU&feature=related.

I hope you enjoyed this augmented look at the blues.  I have to admit, there’s a big part of me that enjoys listening to and playing this kind of stuff immensely.  Stay tuned for more from Blues Guitar Unleashed.

Thanks,

Griff
