Bonnie Raitt has one of the most soulful singing voices in the music industry. Plus she can hang with all the big names on slide guitar. Photo courtesy of Wikipedia.org

One of my favorite female blues voices has got to be Bonnie Raitt.  I’m sure I’m not alone when it comes to making that statement, so I wanted to share some of her “bluesier” performances that also highlight her skills on guitar.  Bonnie is, in my opinion, the whole package when it comes to being a musician.  Thankfully she spent most of her career playing with some of the other top blues artists in the music industry so we have access to many stellar performances.  I came across three live performances that feature Bonnie with her own band and sitting in with some popular blues guests.  I hope you enjoy the videos as much as I did!

The first video travels back to 1976 with a live rendition of the song, “Love Me Like A Man.”  Hear Bonnie kill it on vocals and guitar at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXLP8_2B2sw&feature=related.

The second video features Bonnie with a very special guest on guitar and vocals.  She sat in with blues artist John Lee Hooker and they both performed the song, “I’m In The Mood.”  Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rT-FoZt95D4.

Lastly, Bonnie Raitt was part of a special tribute performance to the late, great Stevie Ray Vaughan on Austin City Limits.  Hear her sing “Pride And Joy” with Double Trouble at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Mylo0piAgc.

Bonnie Raitt has one of the great voices in the music industry and some awesome skills on guitar to boot.  It’s not often you see a woman, or any guitarist man or woman for that matter, holding it down the way she does with the bottleneck slide.  I hope you enjoyed the performances from Bonnie Raitt and all the special guests as well.  Stay tuned for more coming your way at Blues Guitar Unleashed.

Thanks,

Griff

Bonnie’s” Love Me Like A Man” is the reason I dragged my flattop out the closet after 35 yrs. Someday I hope to play like that.

Thanks for sharing all these. I have the DVD of the entire tribute to Stevie show. Blues at it’s finest and took me from total joy to tears between Clapton, Buddy Guy, et al. Bonnie is special…but then, they all are.

Hey Griff–Thanks for the tips and also for posting Bonnie Raitt & John Lee hooker. Bonnie is my all time Favorite. I listen to her more than any other artist, maybe over the last 25 years more than all other artists combined. Not sure about the latter though. Thanks again keep up the great work–Papa-D

Loved it! I especially enjoyed the last video. She has always been one of my favorites, she gets
better with age, like a good wine. Saw Derek Trucks in concert, he is a great slide player also.
      thanks.
