Since I’m playing the Belly Fest Blues Festival in Midland, TX this weekend, I’m in a Texas guitar kind of mood. What better way to celebrate three of the best Texas guitarists to hit the music industry then share video performances from one of the great Texas showcases, Austin City Limits. ACL has featured some of the best musicians in blues, rock and popular music, and I found three videos that are definitely up to snuff. Stevie Ray Vaughan performs a killer version of the song, “Texas Flood,” Albert Collins tears it up on the ACL stage, and Eric Johnson performs an early version of his Grammy winning hit song, “Cliffs of Dover.” Three of the best Texas guitarists at one of the best Texas venues, Austin City Limits. Enjoy!
I can never get enough SRV, and he and Double Trouble deliver on this version of “Texas Flood.” Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2y6xx2qnqg&feature=related.

Albert Collins tears up the ACL stage in this next video performance. Joined with a great backup band, Collins delivers with his high energy style in this video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjrYLiIauQ8.

Eric Johnson performs his big hit song, “Cliffs of Dover,” in this next video. At the time though, this performance was a breakthrough hit for Johnson that got the world’s attention. It’s times like these that we should really be thankful for venues like Austin City Limits that offer a space for musicians to shine on a world stage. These are just a few of the great guitarists to come out of Texas and hit the world of music head on. And with a music venue like Austin City Limits, it’s no wonder Austin, TX is considered one of the live music capitols of the world! I hope you enjoyed these videos as much as I did.
Thanks,
Griff

Great lessons to be learned from these three gifted artists. Thanks, Griff!
Keeepin the shit alive! Good job!
Thanks Griff for starting my Memorial Day weekend off right! I met these guys back in 1982 when they were gigging in a little bar in a strip mall.
Before Texas Flood was released, they were relatively unknown outside of Austin & Dallas. My friends back home near Houston didn’t know about Double Trouble, much less Paul Ray and the Cobras.
All it took was one album and it was all “Whoa!, who the hell is that?”
Hopefully you enjoyed some Texas hospitality last weekend.
Love SRV. Absolutely one of my faves, (along with EC of course). Actually, this is the first time I
really listened to Albert Collins; my God, it’s about the music (FEEL it). And the first time I heard
Eric Johnson play “Cliffs of Dover”………. I melted.
Great stuff !!
Stevie Ray a whole lotta blues passion, Albert a whole lotta blues and soul, wow, Eric… leaves me cold…..
Thanks for sharing these Griff, all great guitarists. Got me thinking though, about the difference between those who are obviously very talented guitarists and those we really like to listen to. Probably a mixture of what they play, vocal style, personality and ability. You mentioned BB King recently, whose guitar style is not exactly rocket science but personally I could listen to him all night long. Same with Albert Collins, I guess, but not necessarily SRV and Eric Johnson, although I certainly appreciate their undoubted skill.
Good luck for your Texas adventure!
Wow! I am blown away by these 3 outstanding musicians. It really reminds me how much I need to practice.
