Dickey Betts has been one of rock music’s most influential guitarists, producing one hit song after another with the Allman Brothers.  Dickey Betts, along with the members of the Allman Brothers, helped redefine rock music with hit songs like “Jessica,” “Ramblin’ Man,” and “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.”  For this post I thought it would be cool to supply a few videos that feature performances of these three hit songs by Dickey Betts and the Allman Brothers.  There’s also a special guitar lesson with Dickey Betts that explains how to play the song, “Jessica.”  I hope you enjoy these videos from one of the greatest rock guitarists of our time, Dickey Betts!

The first performance comes from 1982 and features the Allman Brothers performing their hit song, “Jessica.”  Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfM6nRVBvGs.

The next video I found for you features a step-by-step guitar lesson with Dickey Betts that explains how to play the different guitar parts of the song, “Jessica,” by the Allman Brothers.  Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QS1LHkTs4Mw.

The next video features the Allman Brothers later in the band’s successful career with a performance of the song, “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.”  Not only does this performance offer great guitar work from Dickey Betts, it also features an outstanding performance from Allman Brothers guitarist, Warren Haynes.  Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GxKMUzENoo&feature=related.

Lastly, it wouldn’t be right to feature Dickey Betts and his songs without including the great Allman Brother’s hit song, “Ramblin’ Man.”  Enjoy this performance at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WGVW7byRCA.

While Dickey Betts doesn’t currently tour with the Allman Brothers, he continues to be ranked among the greatest and most influential guitarists in rock music.  I hope you enjoyed this little feature about the great guitarist, Dickey Betts.

Thanks,

Griff

I have long been a fan of dicky betts and the original allman bros, ever since I heard the Beginnings double LP back in the 70s. what a band with 2 drummers and 2 lead guitarists. I recently bought a DVD/CD of dicky betts which is really good.

While Dicky Betts is one of southern rock greatest, don’t forget it was Les Dudek that played lead guitar on Ramblin’ Man and acoustic guitar on Jessica for the Brothers and Sisters album.

In 1973 the Allman Bros was the first concert I ever went to – it remains one of the best! Great time with a great band.

Great stuff! I saw Dickey and Great Southern last week in NY, and it was an amazing show. He really knows how to rock. Great band, too – including his son Duane.

I especially like the ‘lesson’ video of “Elizabeth Reed” Just listen to the beautiful sound of the two Gibson guitars together. It’s a great lesson by the man himself. I saw Great Southern in Northampton Mass. a few years ago and there is NO mistaking Forrest Richard Betts’ sound.
