Seasick Steve has taken the world by storm with his story and the blues. Photo courtesy of Wikipedia.org

Any great blues musician will tell you that playing the blues is all about telling a story.  In recent years, Seasick Steve has toured the world bringing his story to the stage with his voice, his collection of do-it-yourself instruments, and his soul.  I collected a few of his videos that are raw, uncut blues straight from the heart to share with you.  Seasick Steve left Mississippi as a kid and lived a hard life on the road, working wherever he could, playing music all over Europe and North America.  Only recently, since his TV debut on the Jools Holland BBC show in 2006, has Steve made musical waves all around the world.  I hope you enjoy Seasick Steve’s story, because I sure do.

The first video features Seasick Steve playing his Mississippi Drum Machine and his three string Trace Wonder guitar.  Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNoPNC3ebYQ.

The next video comes from the Jools Holland show again with a great performance of Steve’s song, “Walking Man.”  Hear this beautiful song at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pC3rzgprN4w.

The last video I’ll leave you with features Seasick Steve on his 1 string Diddley Bo.  It’s pretty amazing what he can do with these simple instruments.  Enjoy it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMf-em-56Mc.

Seasick Steve tells his story through his music, which is exactly what blues music is all about.  There are a lot of very cool videos from Seasick Steve including appearances with the great bass player, John Paul Jones, and the very talented, Jack White.  There’s plenty more to come at Blues Guitar Unleashed, so stay tuned.  I hope you enjoyed the post because I had a great time making it for you.

Thanks,

Griff

I happened to be watching that first New Years Eve show and Steve blew me away, he literally reconnected me with what’s important about music, long live Seasick Steve and long live the Blues!

Good stuff, Seasick seems to be more popular over here in Britain than his native country, if any of you guys are new to him you must get his album “I started with out with nothin and still got most of it left”.

if he had three more strings could he still do it ?

wow. Thanks for posting this! I love this style of boogie blues. I’ve always been a big Canned Heat fan, and this reminds me a lot of that style of shoutin’ the blues.

He really shows what you can do when you have the music in you. One of the videos has him playing two hubcaps with a broomsick and one string. And it’s fantastic.
