I make no bones about the fact that I’m a big Freddie King fan, and his version of “I’m Tore Down” is one of my personal favorite tunes. If you have Eric Clapton’s “From the Cradle” CD (or mp3 or whatever those kids are listening to these days) you’ll hear he did a killer version of it.
In reality, the rhythm is a pretty standard shuffle pattern that works for a variety of tunes. Just the other day I was teaching one of my private students the same pattern as used in a Joe Bonamassa tune, and then I heard it in an Albert King video where he was doing “The Sky Is Crying” so it even works in a slow blues.
This first video will give you an overview and walkthrough of how this rhythm is used in this song. I’ll put downloadable versions down below.
This is lesson 6-1 from Blues Guitar Unleashed so if you don’t have it and you like this:

This next video is a slow version play along, try it first once you think you’ve got the hang of it.

It was easy to learn gruff thxs
Hey Griff, thank you for the lessons. I already have BGU. Well done. I am always curious as to what drove you to want to teach, and to do it so well. You have a great gift for it. Thanks for wanting to share. BTW, the ending is actually the “Ellington ending.” The Basie ending is nice too but it is different. (P.S. I didn’t know that till I looked it up.)
Thanks again, your lessons are helping me greatly. Steve M
This has been a great lesson I even sent a copy to my son who is a beginner. I have such a great time with these thank you for giving us your time
Lesson on this one great will done like the repeat’s
Talk about a captive audiance. I doubt seriously that there is another guitar teacher on the Internet who gets this kind of response, and as it has been said here over a hundred times, excellent lesson with a very good teaching style. You deserve every bit of the plaudits people give you for your giving freely, patience, the effort alone in putting these videos and lessons together, and seriously making people happy and giving them hope that they can become somewhat skilled, enough so to play in front of people.
As for the riff and the song, I have probably played that riff, who knows how many times, and I have done it in so many different combinations, with triplets in various parts of the riff itself. When I would go out and listen to bands I would always hear that riff in some form or another, so no doubt it has been a popular riff for a very long time.
Thank You very very much for all these wonderful lessons!!! I have following you for few years for a blend in guiltar playing now I can really play some thing to entertain myself some time I also have some walking litsener while I was practice in the park 🙂
Joseph
You are probably one of the easiest guy to learn from. Your explanations are really clear (mainly for someone like me that only started 1yr ago). The nice thing after practicing your lesson for a while, you got the feeling that you can play something. Thank you for taking the time to post those videos
J
Nice and easy for someone like my age to follow(87) . Thank you
Like wow, really great lesson to learn.I am starting to figure how to play the blues.

Excellent Basic approach!!
Good Show Mr. Griff……

Hi Griff I started playing guitar in 1958 around 1962 I happened to
be at a youth centre and there was a band rehearsing there .
The bass player was on the phone to his girlfriend so I picked
up the bass and started messing around the band licked what
I did and said would you like to join the band as there bass
player was leaving maybe the licks I played came from the
fact that I was trying my best to be a guitarist I ended up
joining the bootleggers that was the name of the band.
there I stayed most of my life with many great bands thereafter
as bass player / now its back to guitar thanks to you
Thank you Griff , I have enjoyed everything you have sent me . I really like the way you set up these lessons . You make it easy to understand , and easy to follow along with . Unfortunately I missed the last lesson on the 12 bar blues , the
page would not open . Thank you again……..2bit
Wow Amazing didn’t think I would get it nailed this quick
nice Griff that’s something that i can catch on to pretty quick keep up the good work and thanks a gain for all the videos i find them easy to learn have a good one out for now
Thank you so so much. You make a beginner like me sound like a pro. Thanks again and keep’em coming.
Al
I really like the way you teach. I’ve been singing karaoke for all these years, but I decided to learn to accompany the song instead. I know basic chords on guitar and I just recently sign up Ukelele lesson I am enjoying it, but I want to master guitar as well. I wan’t to be able to sing and play, but my weakness is timing, I get lost soon as I started singing. You think you can help me? I like Eric Clapton song, Wonderful Tonight. Can you teach me the accompaniment? Do you think that the Video lesson will help me improve my skill? I just want to be able to accompany my song. Thanks!
Outstanding!! Thanks a lot.
You are truly the Eric Clapton of guitar instructors
As ever Griff, much appreciated my friend.
Thanks for the lesson, you make it easier to learn.
every guitar player worth his salt knows who joe bonamassa is. i like your teaching style
Griff I’m truly a novice, but I believe in your approach of instruction. I will be purchasing your program with the faith that you will lead me in becoming a Great Guitarist. Thx Bradley
Junot341 here,
The generosity that Grif shows on this site is completely off the hook. I am calling people i haven’t talked to in years telling them to plug into Grif, no matter how good they play, or think they play. Nureyev and Barisnakov in their prime went to the barre everyday; position 12345, to begin each rehearsal.
I just feel a great glow of giving on this site that cannot be found on any other instructional sites anywhere. The lesson above is a major gift! I forgot how to play it and never, would have put it together in one session without Grif’s approach. Tell your friends, hell, tell everyone.
TY, Junot
Griff the Great xx thanx m8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hi, Griff. Just listened and played along to “tore down” style rhythm and had a great time. Feel like I’ve accomplished something. Thanks. Helen, Biggar, Scotland
I like playing a lot of Hendricks and Stevie Ray Vaughan and the things I’ve seen you play have really given me a lot of good ideas
I enjoyed your explaining about the sore fingers. When I would have a new student a young one or have a poorly adjusted guitar. I have them practice only for 15 minutes at a time twice a day so their fingers would not get sore and cause discouraging stiuation.
Grifff where did you study music?
That’s real cool griff red house by Hendrix next especially the intro
It;s cool, man.
Hey Griff
Thanks for all the great tips you have been showing!
Have to tell you tho the email you sent out about the
12 Bar Blues didn’t work. It went to some default page and doesn’t work.
Can you take a look and see what the problem may be? I have to believe that
I am not the only person out there that had the same problem.
Thanks for looking into this. Talk soon.
C
YOU ALWAYS SUPPRISE ME WITH THE VERY VERY GOOD STUFF!
I wanna be just like you when I grow up (I’m 55). Thank you for giving. Tim

Love this one totally, except I always have the temptation of breaking into FOOT TAPPER by The Shadows when I play this routine. As I was note for note with you, I decided that I would accompany you on this one Griff. WE sounded GREAT!!!! Thanks for a lotta FUN. Ray (UK)
Thank`s enjoyed and something I can use,
now getting it up to your speed
Milo
It is a very nice tone!
very good
Your very awesome Griff! You’ve given me so much inspiration, my being disabled and home 99% of the time. Your lessons are by far the best! Thanks
Thanks, Griff. You’re like the Mister Rogers of guitar teachers, and I mean that in a very good way. You are calm, patient, and understanding of those who are struggling with the basics. I’m learning a lot from you.
I think your teaching methods are wonderful and you are super cool for spreading around all that good know how! I have played for years and seen so many people try to keep knowledge to themselves, which I think is silly. I have learned so much from you very quickly and easy, I have played for 16 years and you have opened the flood gates for me, thank you , and keep up the good work.
Very nice job….again. Thanks
This has always been on my bucket list and now I am actualy plating a song. I apppreciate the way you break it down. Your are a good teacher and I am having fun learning. Thanks!
This lesson is just Great! I enjoy playing it and my friends enjoy listening to it. Thanks!
Hi Griff!
I’m really enjoying your lessons. I’ve even gotten to where I actually turn the TV off. I’d rather practice than hear 5 min of program and 10 minutes of commercials, besides, the guitar sounds sooo much better without all that background noise!!!. Thanks!! I love your lessons!!!
That’s my morning sorted then.
Love this stuff, might even but the course pay day
Peace
Neil ‘crazy’ Kelly

Hi griff happy new year Many thanks I like this song so much and now play it thanks what can one say !!

Thank you for the great insight, it has helped me to put it all together. Keep up the great work. We have all lived some blues and being able to put it to guitar makes life a little more exciting.
However many “Thank Yous” exist in the world there aren’t enough for these videos.
Hi Griff. Great teaching site. I’m a 60 yr. old beginner and gain inspiration by watching your lessons. I love to practice! But sometimes I feel “Tore Down” when the play’n isn’t comming along. I’m sure you know who Rory Gallagher is! Anyhow, could you feature something at a beginning level teaching a Rory Gallagher tune or portion there of…Also, Rory does some hot versions of “I’m Tore Down. By the way, you really come across well in your teaching style. I’m going to buy your lessons program asap. Thanks!
Great instructional!!! Ya gotta love the BLUES!!!!!
Griff,
My bad. I was thinking “Albert King” instead of Freddie.
Got a chance to meet him during Steve Tracy’s book
Going to Cincinnati. Am also big Freddie fan.
Hi Griff, I think I’ve said this to you previously but I have to say it again, you are a great teacher. When I was about 10 I had a guitar teacher for 2 years and I have learned more from you from the generous E-mails you send. I never learned these basics that you teach. I sure wish now that I had . Currently I’m not doing well finanacially, but Griff when I am I will definately be ordering some lessons from you. I play good by ear and know quite a number of chords but you have given me the basics I need to get acceptably better. You will get my order in the New year that is for sure. I also recommend you to some of my other buddies in Red Deer, Alberta Canada.
Thank-you very much. -Tim-
Thanks
thank you very much. as i have been out of work and or under employed, can not afford as of yet , but asap i will. has been agreat help and actually helps get rid of the these blues ive had.
Your good, I’ll keep watching as a 65 year old beginner!!
cheers
great stuff, thanks and i guess i need to invest in your program!!! I really enjoy your clips, i wish i had internet at home so i could play along with you, the office doesn’t cut it so good. thanks again
Wanted to make clearer my last post: “Good stuff, thanks Griff, makes things much clearer.”
Good stuff, thanks Griff, make things much clearer.
Thanks Griff, I get a lot out ouf Your lessons thanks again, Doug
I Absolutely love it !!…….Thanks……J…….
its great to advance my playing on line been playing 30 years thanks
Good Lesson for beginners.
I think the use of 9th chords sound a bit tastier than the 7th on the IV
Also instead of basic C7 , how about using 8x898x makes it easier to throw Pentatonic leads in C?
Thanks!
Marc
what about subing the c with inverted miner 6 chord a miner 6 c = CEGA
Am ACEG look all the notes are the same but will using the inverted 6th chord it works in regular musil proud mary ccr well let me know thanks kevin oliver
Griff I am just a beginner and can not pick up on finger positions from videos. Is there a printable tab version i can aquire of “Tore Down”?
I really like your style and want to learn more about the Blues. Let me know and thanks for your lessons.
Griff. been messing with guitars now for years and have hit that “wall” where progress stops. UNTIL NOW!!!!! yOUR METHOD SOMEHOW GIVES ME INSTANT RESULTS. REALLY COOL. SOON AS I CAN I’M UP FOR THE FULL COURSES. MUCH RESPECT.
Griff, firstly i saved all the free lessons you sent in a folder for months now,i briefly looked at a couple at the time, and liked what i saw, only now after practicing scales, excercises etc have i now looked and attempted to learn some of the things you have sent,i have tried to learn guitar over the years but gave up in frustation many times as im not good at the theory of it all, although when i hear songs and musical pieces i sort of know what they are doing but cant seem to do it myself.Anyhow for years “tore down i have known that tune in my head” and sort of roughly tried to play it,i have only now sat down watched your lesson on this and learned it,thanks mate! im stoked i can now play that tune a great thanks to you,i kept these lessons all these months knowing that the stuff you teach is what i want to learn,im now going to go through them all wich i had planned to do all along, will keep you posted as im interested in youre further courses. cheers from Maarty.
Great Blues , I’ve really picked up on this ease of blues
keep em coming,,,Thanks
I sure will practice this tonight.
Griff,
My computer has run into some audio issues that I am still ironing out. I replaced the speakers and nothing. I downloaded the audio drivers again and the virus protection I purchased through AVG
is blocking the install. Any thoughts how to get around it? I have been real busy with work and not able to put much time into this, but it won’t always be this way. I can get more from you if I can hear you too.
Super Cool. I have your Blues Unleashed and I am just started working on it. I have had to learn some music theory first and I am going to start working with your package. Both YOU and MARTHI SH have given me a start, and I plan took give all I can.
Thanks
A Nubee
Tony Hernandez
Brilliant. Thank you so much, once again Griff.
Mick in the UK
That is so cool griff.
My progress has been amazing since I started using you course and instruction.
Thanks Griff,
Pete
Your You Tubes played just fine. However, when I attempted to download (save as) that was not possible (grayed out). I think you haven’t made them Mac compatible.
This info is pricelessoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo..
Griff,
I’m a 56 year old retiree that plays for my own pleasure. I have been frustrated for a few years due to dealings with snake oil salesmen and teachers with no soul. I have narrowed down my search for a better way to learn and you are at the top of the list. I think I will be ordering BGU in the very near future. Thanks for providing guidance, after 37 years in an applied physics lab you are the first to make me feel like I’m not a moron (with 13 top end american guitars). Your talents are appreciated, your teaching skills exceptional. Russ
Griff,
Your video lessons are great, straight to the point and educational, without the commercial
hype. I am currently working on another instructional course, but as soon as I develope some decent theory I will be looking forward to purchasing your courses. It is still great to
be able to pick up what you are making available. Thanks!!! KS
Griff,
I wanted to express my thanks for your video lessons. I’ve been playing guitar “camp fire style” for 35 years, but after watching your lessons, I’ve been able to begin getting into the stuff people want to hear when we’re NOT sitting around the campfire. The different blues melodies and the riffs you’ve demonstrated provide me with all the instructions neded to really start improving my skills by simply practicing your lessons. Keep up the great work. You have a big fan in Peachtree City, GA.
I am not ready to start. I don’t even have my amplifier yet. I’m going slow because I’m still working in the food business. I’ll retire in a year, but I’ll start watching the DVD’s in about a month. What I’ve seen so far is great. I love the blues. My favorite song is St. James Infirmary by Bobby “Blue” Bland. ( Way back when) I’ ll e- mail you when I am ready to start receiving e-mails again.
Thanks,
Kit Sommer
Well Griff, Ya talked me into it … 🙂 . I’ll be ordering BGU tomorrow by snail mail. Hopefully you can teach this ol’ dog a few tricks . used to play rhythm 20 plus years ago , then I did the whole American dream thing , ( you know , get married, raise kids , get that ol ‘ work your fingers to the bone job just to survive) Now the kids are grown , and I’m ready to learn something new. I love blues , can’t sing a note, so I figure , what better way to “sing ” than through the guitar. I have checked out many , many , online courses , and yours is the best I’ve found . Maybe I’ll do a before and after tape and send it to you . Oh, and one other thing , I know you probably wont have a chance to answer this, but , just wondering if you know any good online blues harmonica courses , my daughter is an awesome player, and I would defiantly prefer to go by your recommendation than try to filter through all the online BS these days. ( Hmmmm… maybe another addition to your courses ;)…) Well , thanks , for keeping the spirit alive ! ( Keep on rockin ! )
J.D. Marr
Griff, There are many guys teaching guitar of some description over the internet. I chose you because you seem to be the nicest of them all. No brag, just good solid teaching from an outstanding teacher. Thanks for all you do.
Mike
Why, are so many of you tab-pdf damaged ?
Thanks for the free lessons Griff, very helpful indeed 🙂
you’ve done it again Griff!!! real good helpful stuff that i know will be used and appreciated by all.
for me…..keep it coming! i have been acoustic/vocal player for years, always wanting to play some lead, and it’s coming on GGGGRRREAT!!!!!!!!!!! with your guidance.
Thanks and great work. The veils are falling away from my eyes.
Bill

peter
Thanx Griff !! That was fun !!
I really do get alot out of your Free Lessons. I played the guitar for a couple of years way back when, Then got away from it ( Never Again ) and now I have been playing again for about 2 years.I know more now than I ever did, My Fretboard,Scales,Keys, Minor,Major and the 1-4-5 2-3-6 Etc.It really is amazing how it all works…To me it is like a puzzle and I keep putting more and more pieces together ! I learned alot from other free lessons I find, But I have learned alot from you to help me along…Thanks a Million, I’d like to sit around and have a few Beers with you, You seem like someone I would Like to hang with. I still have a ways to go so keep the lessons coming… I really Appreciate your help…I’m un-employed right now but when I get going again There are some things that you sell that I would like to have. Thanxs Again.
Hi Griff!
A timely post! I ‘m working on lesson 6 at the moment , finally getting somewhere with it , thanks to BGU , my blues skills are coming along!
Best wishes.
Neil Tong
Hi guys! (& gals!!!)
Giff…(I also am a Freddy King fan!!) as an x-drummer and teacher, I really appreciate YOUR way of being …… Thanks! I also send your stuff to all my guitar playing buds, relatives, etc!!!! (& no one has complained, yet!!!). I say “x” because I am now 69 yrs young and it is only because of my Parkinson’s condition that I have given up drum set ( and now my upright bass playing!); i.e. I run out of energy very quickly. plus my left side is not in my control anymore….neither is my voice; so I don’t sing anymore, either, (which makes a lot of folks happy!).
Anyway, what I appreciate about your presentations is your conciseness of explanation, and your smoothness of playing….! WOW! You make it all make sense!! Music IS the perfect metaphor for life!!! (muse+ic = relationships!!!) Thank you & please keep on, keeping on!!!!,
Hello Griff
As you may be knowing I am already a subscriber to your mails.
I am retired and 69 years old, I play the guitar reasonably well – mostly country, Rockabilly and country blues. I can’t afford any of these courses, so I live out of the free stuff that is available in the net. I really appreciate and I thank you for the free lessons that you give out at times – like this marvellous lessson.
Thanks Griff and may GOD bless you and your family.
Lionel
as always clear an precise.
the old bass player again. As you were teaching/demonstrating, I realized a lot of the old-gold R&R songs used this rhythm. Chuck Berry may have been the “king” of using this technique. While Icannot apply the exact fingering to my upright-acoustic-doghouse-bull fiddle bass, You present the material in such fashion that I can adapt. VRY GOOD TEACHING!
Its cool and nice as a starting point, its effective.
Grif
Received your DVDs last week and though I have not had a chance to really sit down with them(thank god in these times I am fortunate to be employed and some what over whelmed )
From what I have scanne through and your email lessons I am after 45 years of playing the guitar I have found something to get me out of the rutt. I own many fine instruments and i am so inspired I am going to pick up a low priced guitar to keep at work for my breaks . Your method appears to be clear and well thought out. Thanks for the dose of inspiration you are doing a good thing and you should be proud.
Thanks a lot … your instructions are truly simple to follow. (And heaven knows, I need simple).
Hey Griff,
I like this. Hey, did you attach the scale or solo that could be combined with this nice progression?
MC
Hi Griff:
This is the best guitar course I have had and I have been trying for years. I wasted a whole lot of money on other courses. The course is sequential and the video is very supportive and focused. Griff gets into the mind of the learner and appreciates the barriers and work towards smoothing them out. I know all the learners in his “Blues Guitar Unleashed Course” will agree with me. I am taking my time with this course because I feel that I will get there in the end. This is a honest testimony not staged. Great Instructor and course.
Gordon
HI griff,
I love your mini tutorials, it make my playing sound a lot cooler.
hey griff: cool lesson. could you show the little e7 & F up close. hard to see. am still working on BGU. thanks. mike
Hey Griff. Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed Tore Down. I learned that pattern many years ago when I was listening to the sounds of “the Ventures”, Little Richard, and many more in that era. Your doing a real nice job teaching our younger protoge’s. I’d really like to jam with you some day. Who know’s in this business…….
Thanks again,
Bobby Alan
Why do you need alternate picking? kinda diifficult for a beginner. easier for me to upstroke, then down stroke.
I agree with Scott. Great lessons. Easy to understand and apply. You rock (or blues…)! Gonna definately purchase the program when more $$ frees up.
Hey Man, I just wanted to say thanks. I’ve been out of work for a while so I can’t spend any money, and your lessons are so clear and consise that I WANT to buy them! I WILL once my personal economics gets back on track though. Until then, a hearty thank you!
Griff
Great lesson. Fun to play along with.
@John – thanks, I fixed that now.
Thanks Griff for the breakdown on “tore down”. 🙂 *NOTE* the “slow jam track.wmv” is actually a MP4 and others may have trouble with the download as I did.
hi griff i did get my blues on leashed thank. i run my own transmission shop it keeps me bussey. I play with some guys and thay notest the difference after one day. I just got to dvd 3 and cant wait to get to the rest . i am self tot and i see a lot of good thing in this . thank you very much.
Thanx for another excellent lesson, but 1 question:
Is there any reason why you play the C chord from the 10th fret of the 6th string rather than the 3rd fret of the 5th string? I find it easier this way, unless you’re actually playing a slide.
..thanks once again griff for demystefying theBLUES,,,,,l like the basey ending,,,my friends want the secret,,,i tell them…GET ON TO GRIFF……
Great lesson Griff… as always dude!!!
cool riff griff keep up the fine bussness!
Hi Griff,
Thanks for figuring out an understandable way to teach blues guitar, Finally an easy approachable way to make it fun and enjoyable. I like the way your method of teaching blues guitar in small increments, it works well and it sets you up as you follow along with each lesson, before you know it you are noodling and playing blues riffs. I look forward each and every day to come home and practice playing and reading your e-mails. I am totally addicted to playing blues guitar know and I am putting all the blame on you GRIFF. Thanks man and keep the lessons coming , I cant wait until I can buy your Blues Unleashed CD and DVD Keep jamming and peace to everyone
this is awesome!!!!!
Yo, dude!
I can’t download flash to my iPhone.
Can you transmit a version compatible with the iPhone?
Thanks! Gene
Dear Griff,Even though i can’t afford your whole course right now it is helping a whole lot,but there is one thing that has completely thrown me off and that is the twelve Bar Chord, what is it ,or what do you mean by it.It totally throws mind into a spin when I hear it,but hopefully I will be able to play the blues half as good as you with a lot of work. Thank You again; Dusty
I have been playing a 12 string for 40 years, strickly rhythm. about 8 years ago I started learning lead runs. I need all the help I can get. I don’t really have anyone to pick with, so I rely mostly on youtube. I would love to be able to obtain some backing tracks, jazz, and blues. your lessons are helping me greatly. thanks ever so much. I look forward to more of your lessons.

Hi Griff ,
I having problems with trying to download your postings, i missed out on the 4 note solo video, got everything else like TABS and such, but cant download the video, its a bummer as i like the fact that you explain the technique and style very well. I just received your lesson featuring Eric Clapton ‘The Tore Down Rhythm’. and couldn’t download these either. Any ideas why this is occurring? I will keep trying as i would like to continue receiving lessons from you. Do i have to be a payed subscriber to download videos etc?
Thanks.
Like what your doing, keep it up.
John
I like the version of that riff which uses a nice little 3 chord ending to launch into another common riff. I can’t tell you what the chords are as yet but I’d love to be able to play the whole thing.
I play the guitar with two missing fingers on left hand. I have the ring finger, the little finger, and the thumb to fret chords and notes. I cannot play left handed. I have found that it is possible to play a lot of things even with this disability. I would like to thank you for showing me simple ways to achieve new knowledge even with the disabilities. Been playing intensively for 8 years.
The first thing that comes to mind is… Thanx for another AWESOME lesson. If it wasn’t for you and the way you teach I’d still just be looking at the guitar I bought six years ago, wishing I could play it.
I really enjoyed this 1!
The way you broke it down.
I was jammin it in no time!!!
THANX SO MUCH
Darryl
Proper food and proper nutrients are more important for the people to be healthy.
Thank you very much for the lesson. I’m stationed in Iraq and just received the CD’s. I think all guitar players would enjoy this course. Again thank you.
Thank you for the lesson. I’m still working on it. Thanks for breaking it down so I can understand it. The bar chords are hard on my wrist though.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks, for the lesson, but can you send me the notes again to the bassie ending
Griff
Thanks, you are the best. So easy and simply put.
Well done on another good lesson.
Great to play along with and some fun tips too. It’s just what I enjoy after a hard day in the garden.

Hey Griffin,
You do so much for so many. I know you hear it all the time but you’ve been a great help to expand my knowledge. I’ve been playing since I was 9 or 10yrs old and in bands on and off since about 15yrs old. The only thing I know that you’ve asked of anyone is to log on and vote for your band. I’ve done that but I wish,( and I’m sure everyone else does too!) there was more we could give back to you. If you need anything we’re capable of helping you with PLEASE don’t hesitate to ask! Thanks for being so cool about helping people! Blessings to you and your family. From a good Canadian freind!

Hi Griff
Just wanted to say hi and thanks. Alot of us as you know are strapped for cash these days and like others I two will get your CD when I can afford to.
But I really want to thank you for all of your on line stuff. I get on every day to see what you have to give us. You are a great person to do this.
I will voye for you as much as I can.
Thanks again
Don
too cool – as any youngster might say!! And this oldster says, Yeah, man, I like it.
I keep reading your e-mails and thank you very much. I. really am not much of a gitterest (short for a guitar musician), but gosh I’ve been trying for many years – just without structure or aim. I intend to purchase the program, just waiting for the right time not to hinder my other bill payments.

Griff, your teaching/instruction is sensational. I\\\’ve been out of work for almost two years and about to go nuts, but your sharing with the videos has been great for me. As soon as I\\\’ve got some extra cash be assured I\\\’m in for your program. It really is terrific. If you see a senior rocker at one of your shows, it\\\’s me. I\\\’m 72!!

very impressed with all the lessons and advise given…thanks
Solid groove Griff and a good way to teach it. I’ve been a blues man for more decades than I care to count sometimes, but I like the way you break down the material even though it’s not new to me.
Something I would suggest though and something that I do with my students is to explain the music behind it. I find it helps if they understand the music.
J.
Hey Griff, I pretty much have to echo what most the others are saying here, YOU ROCK! Your teaching style is very cool and as everyone says the way you break it down you make it very easy to understand. I love how you combine the theory with the lessons as well. I bought your DVD set about 2 weeks ago and have been having a blast. My biggest problem is following your advice and not rushing forward for the cooler stuff 😉 As for the price, I was looking at taking some lessons from a local instructor in my area and 3 months of lessons covers what you have here easily. It is true you do not get the live feedback on your progress however with the lessons I don’t have a DVD I can rewind and playback over and over again either. Moreover, I find music teachers kind of like doctors. It is hard to say whether you will like the person until after going to them for a while. I knew I liked your style after I saw the 4 note riff jam. Thanks Griff! Looking forward to learning lots from you! Even though I have your kit, I still look forward to these emails to see what your up to here as well…

Hey there Griff, what up?
Thanks for taking the time to send this out! Definitely a cool blues lesson and a friendly reminder to dive back into your web site. Keep sending music out! Your teaching skills are excellent, the presentations are very understandable and it gives me something of interest to bring into my private music instructor. The site is a great supplement to my learning experience.
Peace, Jimmy G.
thank you for such a cool Rhythm.
thanks , cool bananas
cheers andrew
Dear Griff,
I am so excited to get your emails and to see what demo you have for everyone…I just bought a Godin guitar and I love it but love it more because I get to play the blues that you have been teaching us…it is awesome!!!! thanks so much Griff .
Mad Marge
Hi Griff!
Great timing for these rhythm lessons, as some (many) of us are doing a Lead lesson of Tore Down from Bob Murnahan right now. I have EC’s TAB for Tore Down, so I have both, but you guys get it broken down into usable parts, and the videos make a big difference.. I should be able to play this at an open mike after I get done practising with the both of you! Thanks for everything!
Hello Griff!
I stumbled onto your website somewhere along the line and found what I have been looking for for a looong time. I am old enough to be retired but young enouogh to learn. Your teaching is masterful and so easy to follow. I am more than a beginner but short of accomplished. Believing that in anything you do your fundamentals are so very important, I ordered the beginning DVD as well as the Unleashed. Thank you so much for your regular email lessons. They are fabulous. The only problem I have had is opening the TAB(pdf) for the Tore Down Rhythm lesson (the one I am responding to right now). It just says "This file is damaged and could not be repaired". Help?
Thank you very much. Seasons Greetings. I new "student" and fan.

Hi Griff
I just wanted to tell you that your lessons are excellent. I am learning quite a bit. I have been playing on and off for many years and your lessons are bringing everything together for me.
Unfortunately I was laid off from my job of 7 years on Aug. 14 (My Birthday – nice timing by the company). At this point I can not afford your Blues Guitar Unleashed course, but as soon as I land another job I will put buying your course at the top of my list.
Thanks so much for the "Free" lessons.
Take Care

Griff,
These are great teaser lessons. Soon I should have a bit of a windfall and be able to jump into all the sessions. I have learned so much can’t wait for "the rest of the story".
Sounds good —- I have got to learn that — I`ve just started pick-
ing up my guitar again….. What got me started was going to Blues
Fest @ Brucemore in Cedar Rapids, IA. About 3 years ago Mr. Joe
Bonamossa was the Headliner — That Boy can Play — and I`ve been
hooked……… But it`s only been the last few months that I`ve been
getting my fingers back on those strings and hardening the tips, it
takes a while…….. and I will….. Thanks for the help and instruction…..
Wal of the `RAPIDS` `CEDAR` that is………………..!!!

Thanks for keeping it simple and providing so much instruction in your lessons.
Hey Grill, thanks for all the great stuff. Your a great teacher, I wish that I could have found you years ago. I will be ordering your course soon, just have to save a little cash. Thanks a lot, always, willie
Hi Griff, Your stuff is great to learn from, although I’ve been playing a couple of years now and everything that you have shown me seem so easy to do thanks…. trouble is now I want more and I’m lacking in the funds, because this is worth the time investment I will do something about it. I will just have to save up to receive these DVDs. So, I have to say thanks for your lessons this far. Peace, Out!!
I saw someone mention Linda Lou. I unfortunately remember that tune. … here real name is Linda Lou. LOL. Again great stuff.
I play harmonica and I found these videos helpful in playing along, basically playing around the notes of the various chords in differentcombinations.
Hi – came across your 4note solo in a search for something else, WOW your teaching style and enthusiasm encouraged me to lay aside my sticks a while and reach for the guitar again after some years. Thank you. Now I need time out of the drum workshop to excercise my fingers again. Keep up the good work
i love this one…. easy, nice beat… perfect….. thanks.
Hi Griff,
Thanks so much for the video’s they’re Great! I just started learning about 3 months now and have come quite far for such a short time. I’m looking forward to seeing more and learning more from you.
Have a wonderful day!
Just a thought,I think what you are doing is the coolest teaching and study method I’ve seen on the web. I first thought oh sure another g-tar teacher, allthis guy wants is for me to spend my money on the CD’s but you really suprized me and continue to do so! I really want to thank-you for all you have done for me and for many others, this I am sure of.thanks bud, keep up the good work. The man in the upper room knows your heart & you will be rewarded! Big Al
this is to cool dude . thanks for helping this poor man out . if not for you and you tube i would still be lost . Thanks………….
Ah Griff

Hi Griff,
Just wanted to say thanks, heaps! I unfortunately are’nt in a position to afford to buy your course at present…but hope to in the future! You clearly love what you do (and have a ‘gift’ for teaching!) proven by the fact that you give alot of your knowledge for free…so clearly, its not ALL about the $$. I’ve always been a blues fan, but thanks to you,my 15yr and 11yr old sons are now hooked too, and blown away but what you’ve taught them…Thanks again, from Melbourne, Australia.
Hi Griff,
I have been playing Rock-N-Roll and Country since I was 14 and I’m now 65. My cousin, Vince Gill and I grew up together in Oklahoma. When I got married 43 years ago I quit playing professionaly and Vince kept on going. I still have my first wife and 2 kids plus grand 4 kids. I just bought your complete Blues Guitar Unleashed Course and I’m really lookin forward to learning the Blues from you. Thank you for making this available to me.
Rick
Grif,
I checked out your 4-note blues lead and was enamoured with your teaching technique. So much so that I decided to buy your Blues Unleashed instructional program today (6-7-2009). I’m already eagerly awaiting its arrival. Meanwhile, I will take these free downloads you so generously provided and begin my new educational endeavor. I’ve been playing for years, but, as with one of your other fans, have been in a rhythm rut for decades. I am finally coming out of my shell and am sure your videos will help me immensely. Thanks so much! Mr. Music
i love this track great music thanks
you rock griff!for some reason this is so easy the way you break it down. i love this.i need to spend some time with this.but it will not take that long.what i learned in 30 minuts is blowing me away.im a begginer 2-3 years but i comprehend simple.you make this simple.talk to you soon.
Encore une fois, fantastique leçon, pédagogie irréprochable et … effet garantie lors d’un boeuf entre copains !
Merci merci Griff.
Griff.
Excellent lesson as always thanks so much for your
expertise.
Hi…
I have to agree with RW Shea that a few more advanced riffs would be cool. i know, you get them when you pick up a DVD or whatever. Right now I am what i choose to call “financially embarrassed.” i will pick up and pay for the more advanced stuff fairly soon, but seeing some on the site would be nice.
thanx…
Vidar
Yeah baby, that’s what I’m talkin about.
The most important thing Griff has taught me is to learn something new everyday.
Every time I try something like this, I think…
“I can’t do this” then
“Maybe I can do this” then
“I’ll be damned, I CAN do this!”
Hi Griff
Thanks for another clear and concise lesson, I really enjoy your teaching style and the clear videos with fretboard expansion. You have all ready done me a favour with your previous lesson on combining the Minor blues scale and the Major blues scale, I have got rather stuck into the Pentatonic, but I also realise now that during improvising I have been using Major scale stuff and some Dorian a bit like Santana, as well as straight blues. I am getting the money together to buy your dvd/cd set and would like the same info as another guy here in the UK, ie how to get it in the UK, postage costs and avaiability. Many thanks Alan
You really keep it simple and understandable, you course is on my birthday list. I think the Blues is the ultimate expression of life, besides Gospel. Keep up the good work. God Bless
Awesome
Will work on this
Thank you much!!
Mary Beth
Very encouraging, I love the blues, exchange rate a bit of a problem FOR NOW, Well done on putting these videos together, looking forward to the next one, thanks again

THAT 4 NOTE SOLO IS A SIMPLE BUT INTERESTING VARIATION ON THE A BLUES SCALE,COULD THE SAME 4 NOTE BE USED ON THE E BLUES SCALE AS WELL?
Thank you very much. I started playing guitar in 2003 and am enjoying it immensely. Most of my playing has been country rock, but I’ve found that a few blues notes have really added to some of the material, at least the band thinks so, ahem!! at this point anyway. We have a jam session at which we have mandelin and banjo players partake. We are all older players (60+), some have much more training and experience than I, but we all enjoy “shakin’ it loose” every Saturday afternoon. Most of our playing is done over “C” scale, and we’ve transposed a lot of music from some of the old (our generation)original rock & roll legends, ie. Buddy Holly, Ricky Nelson, of course Elvis and Fats Domino, along with many others as you can imagine. Some of the country riffs and runs, that I’ve tried to work on came from the works of James Burton, Scotty Moore, etc. These were hard to follow because any rendition that I was able to find, didn’t get anywhere near as easy to understand, or pick up, as what your videos show, and for that I am very grateful. Believe me the “blues” fits anywhere. Thank you. Wayne
Awesome lessons.
I’ve learned a lot from your lessons which I’ll be practicing when I return to my country (Philippines) this weekend since I’m only a visitor here. I hope I can get your site in our country so I can continue with your lessons. God bless.
Hi,
Again thx for your lessons .
I see you put in a lot of work to get us noobies playing that guitar 😉 and guess what ? it did work for me.
Normally i would not pay money for guitar lessons on CD/DVD but i am gonna buy yours because this is so good , you a hell of a teacher to me 🙂
I hope there is an option to pay other than trought the internet because that i wont do.
Thx a lot
G-Day Griff,
From down under down under,Tasmania.
Thanks teach, if I could send you the proverbial apple you’d have it.
Love the blues, love the lessons, appreciate your continued efforts.
I’m another with a sad story, I’m getting over cancer & my wife is getting over a brain tumour , so when we recover financially I’ll become a customer also.
I guess these freebies DO pay off eventually..
Regards,
Rick.

DOOLEY -CANADA
Can’t play the videos you sent for “I’m Tore Down” and I can’t understand why. They start but they keep stopping and never finish.
Though I have only seen a couple of your videos I have found your approach to be relaxed and enjoyable. I have played for years and watched many people teach you are on a small list of people that I would reccomend. Keep up the good work, but most keep the joy of the music alive withen yourself and all those around you will be continually blessed. Thank you for doing what you do. Shalom.
I Have been and am still totally happy with your teaching style. I have been playing for over 40 years and you make learning easier than anything I have seen before.
hi griff
just to let you know ive just brouht my first guitar and the free stuff you are doing is fab.Especially the four note blues.Your free stuff is brilliant for me as i have recently lost my job due to illness.keep up the good work,All the best

Hi Griff
Just downloaded you lesson for Tore Down. So happy you can show me how to play a song that Eric Clapton has done (my idol!!) and now you are too, thanks to the great lesson you have provided.
On disability so ordering anything on line is out of my reach, but this was great!! Keep up the great work!!!!!
I love the way you break it down, I find your lessons the easiest to follow along with. What you do is a great resource for “budding stars”.
Keep it up… its much appreciated!!!
love the e mails i purchased your playing through the blues several months ago then my computer crashed is there any i can get my lessons back i would love to get them back because i also purchased the riffmaster pro like i said i love the e mail
thanks for the lessons. they are great. you do a great job explaining your lessons than all the others.they do more playing than showing what they do.i had 3 years of guitar lessons.know all chords, pentatonic scales etc. i now would love to be able to some nice lead guitar solos.hopefully i can get them from your site.thanks again for the music.keep it up .
Thanks Griff,
Your lessons are wonderful!
I would love to be able to get backing tracks,BLUES OF COURSE, I am a big fan of FREDDIE KING and would love to get backing tracks.
Can you help a desperate guitarist?
Thanks Griff for a direction to get these.
Many Thanks,
Blues Lover,
roy
Thanks Griff
You already sent me the vidio for this one, and i must admit, i am having some great fun with it.
Once again Griff thanks.
Ian Wallace
Hi Griff,
Love the lessons, but I am knew to Blues Guitar, and have a lot to learn. Do you offer complete Blues guitar lessons on DVD. I travel alot for work and it would be great to have these lessons on a DVD to practice when I am on the road.
Thanks
Mike
Hi Griff, I like your way and how you explain and teach lessons!!!
I´ll follow you up everytime!!!
Best regards.
Diego – Argentina
Hi there,
great lessons Griff,keep em coming.
This is great fun to play. wonderful lesson
Hi
I like your style of teaching but I was kind of hoping you would get to the part where you offer your Blues guitar instruction courses so I could see what you have available and in what format (dvd, dvdrom, video, interactive, on-line ect.) How about it? By the way I do not mean any dissrespect!
Duane
Hello Griff,
Thanks for the wonderfull lesson. I enjoy it a lot and keep on practicing it a lot too.
Hi Griff excellant really like your stuff any chance of showing other scales that will fit in with Blues playing other than the blues minor pentatonic for example the mixolydian scale which can also be used in blues .Once again thank you for your great lessons .
Hi Griff,
must thank you for all the freebies they are great and very informative. I play a Petersen model B classical guitar(bought in 1962) so do’nt get the same sounds but the satisfaction from your lessons is enormous. Like one of your other “followers” the exchange rate is not great at the moment but for future reference how do I purchase your lessons. Many thanks once again for your generosity.
Great practice for finger work..I love chords and strumming and rhythm studies with that, but this is what I need practice on and what I crave to learn more of…the coordination of the frets and strings and the rhythm feel for the notes!
Keep more of this stuff coming, Griff!
Thanks a lot Griff,,all the materials from you really helping me…to get through,,..PTTB.
Eventhough I’m a kind of busy with my work..but still find time to practice…
Keep it up,,,,
I enjoy your lessons..It’s very hard to get a “good” blues teacher..You are the best teacher i have found online, and look forward to recieving new techniques and songs..Just wondering if you do any Stevie Ray Vaughn? any tricks etc… 🙂 Live in remote area, and its very pleasing to know i can jam at home…thanks.
Grif: Thanks so much for all the great videos and other instructions. I’m having a ball with it. I especially like the Tore Down Rhythm and I’m practicing it regularly but I can’t figure out how you are making the C7 and the F on the first rest. It doesn’t look like to me that your fingers are making these two chords the same way you show in your tabs. I’m trying to hold the two chords the way you show in your tabs but it doesn’t sound as good as the way you play them on your video. Am I wrong or just confused??
Thanks again for all this great stuff.
Thanks for that one, good fun to play
I love your stuff, Iv’e learnt more from ‘PTTB’ and all the free stuff, you so generously give away, than all (and there are tons) of the other courses I’ve tried over these many years.
I can’t thank you enough Griff.
PS. Iv’e reached a level I never thought possible just a few weeks ago.
Cheers mate!
chas
Griff:
First, I concur with the other posters regarding your ability to get the lesson into the heads, and more importantly, into the fingers of the your students. (Myself included). Thank you!
Secondly, I know you are busy however, would it be possible to include a few advanced riffs…step-by-step. (ie…some speed riffs, double stops, and possibly, speed riffs incorporating hammer-ons and pull-offs to increase the speed…Again, the emphasis is on Step-by-Step.
While, I have not been on a 30yr. hiatus, as the poster above, I have been playing the same licks for 30 yrs…getting a bit bored…my “needs improvement” area is on speed bursts.
Gratefully!!! And…PLEASE keep them coming!!!!!!
Very Nice lessons, a little advanced for a 66 yr old who just picked up guitar again after a 30 yr hiatus. Used to strum a little folk back in Sixties. But, I am trying to learn the Blues and you do a great job of going slow to performance speed.
Thanks
Enjoyed this very much. I love blues like these and they are great to shred to if so desired.
Mark
Real Great!
Here we are mouvin.
I enjoy youre music, I see your dvd s but can´t get acces to look at the price for them, no where I can click with my mouse, why?
So if you will sell your stuff, let me know how?
thankyou
Hey Griff,
You have a great way about your approach to teaching. Terrific job please keep the info coming out!
Thanks!!!!
Griff,
tnx so much 4 the time and effort u put into these lessons. I really appreciate them. You have revived my love for guitar and my thirst to progress along the musical river. I would dearly love to buy one of your courses, but at the moment the exchange rate is rather bad 4 me. I will however bite the bullet one of these days and take the plunge. In the meantime i want u to know thesse freebies are helping me tremendously,
Ozi.
Dear Griff,
I am very impressed with your lessons both in content and qulity of video. Could you tell me how long it will take to get the whole set of CD,s and book sent to the UK.
Many thanks

If you have problems with the PDF, you may have to update to the newest version of adobe reader. You can download it free at http://www.adobe.com/products/reader
Thanks for all the great input and feedback. Enjoy!
Griff
I love your videos, but everytime I click on one of your TAB sites I get a message saying “this file is damaged and can’t be repaired”. What’s the problem? Can you fix it?
Thanks
Griff,
Love the song… great lesson too. Saw Freddie at a nightclub in Steamboat Springs, Colorado 2 weeks before he passed, in ’76. He and his band played from 11:00 PM till 3:00 AM. I was one of a lucky 7 or 8 people able to stay and listen after the club closed at 1:00. Close up and personal. I’ll never forget it.
The band totally smoked.
Steve
that lick is from a song called lindalou 1960.but its a good lick .joetheshakerRBL
Grif I am contuing to retain interest in your method of teaching I am no great guitarist I sang lead vocals and played rhythm guitar in a small r – n – r band a long time ago. I’m getting old now and would dearly love to play and sing blues but find continued theory alone too dry to take for long periods and fall back to the old strumming. But this seams different , I hope so because I’m sure this will be my last attempt.
regards Harry
like the way you break it up in chunks&then put it all together.will get back to you after i work on it some
TERRIFIC LESSON. I WANT TO SPEND SOME TIME WITH IT
