Blues music lost one of its founding fathers when Pinetop Perkins passed away at his home in Austin, Texas on March 21, 2011.
Perkins was the oldest musician to ever win a Grammy when he won the Lifetime Achievement award in 2005.
While my blog is generally limited to guitarists, blues music is such an integral part of our culture and Pinetop was one of Blues and Rock and Roll’s founding architects. He certainly deserves his place here.Here is the news broadcast from Austin of his passing:

I was 20 when I was pretending to go to U of Chicago, I got a job playing drums for Howlin Wolf. Pinetop was the pianist for that group. I got to hang out and play off and on with these guys until Chester gied in 1976. I saw him last in Canada in 99. He was the most amazing player. Even at 61, I am inspired to be boogying into my 90’s
