Greetings fellow gear junkies!
My good friend Steve Araujo from The Bass Hang hit me up to do a video for the new version of the Nobels ODR-1 and I was, of course, very happy to oblige.
I was expecting a glorified Tube Screamer (many pedals are) but what I got was actually quite different and I have to admit I think I’m going to make space on the old pedalboard for one of these.
EDIT: Steve just told me that if you’re interested in getting one and want to find a dealer in your area email Ron@morenosales.com (it’s also in the video.)
Check it out…

Hey! I just hunted to solicit in defense you always have a few hassle with hackers? My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended in the lead behind a number of months of grueling work as a consequence of no yet again up. Accomplish you may have a few options to protect in opposition to hackers?
Thank you Griff for showing us how to creat really cool sound effects with these pedals …
I’m a very amateur player but a collector, 3 Les Paul’s, 3 Strats, 4 Ibanez, 2 Schecter, 1 Samick, 1 Cort.
My problem is I can’t seem to find THE guitar with the tone I can fall in love with.
I’ve even modified each guitar, I’ve used at least 15 diff pickups, most are high dollar name brand, but that seems like that’s all I’m doing, to get THE sound/tone. I play everything through a Limited Edition FENDER DELUXE WHITE LIGHTNING 40 watt tube amp which after I modified it, it sounds 100% better, and use a LINE 6 POD X3 LIVE.
What am I not getting? Is my equipment that bad?
I know without a doubt that once I find the ONE, I will be playing a lot more and probably sleep NEXT to the guitar!lol
Any help would be greatly appreciated! By the way my ears are in perfect working order. Ray
Griff, loved the demo and the sound – so I bought one. This is my first pedal and so I’m not sure if I am missing something. I hooked it up and I am playing with the settings – no problem. But I thought that all pedals had a bypass (or pass through – no effect) mode. I have not been able to figure how to get the bypass working. The pedal switch just turns the ODR off – no pass through. Any suggestions?
you could possibly use an AB switch to bypass around it if you cant find any other way, the AB switch is a simple 1 in 2 out switch
Hope it helps
John
Very nice, like it,even the country tone sounds great.Thanks.
WOW!! I liked it, sounds great.
Griff – great demo, playing, and especially tone! What kind of Lindy Fralin’s do you have in your Suhr? As always, you rock!
Ken
I hope they paid you for that… it was a great demo & endorsement!!!
Well you did it Griff, I’m going to be out more dinero You keep doing all of these pedal video’s and I will need a part time job 🙂 Thanks as always. Hopefully Steve took you out for a great dinner and some free pedals for the increase he saw after your demo’ing his pedals.
Like your teaching as usual but (not just you but most) spend too long on the demo part sort of “lost in rock” or as grandma would say
“Showing off”. Nevertheless I appreciate your info- just sharing maybe I’m alone in this…
Smasheroo!!!! demo. I am watching it for the second time right after this.
The pictures & video would be much nicer if I could hear the audio. I tried on youtube and straight through the link. I listen to demos all the time from more sources than we have time for here… so I’ll try another day.
Great sounding ,great gear, thanks . I leave in London UK , where can I find one of ODR-1
Hi Griff;
You could check out Peter’s players up here in The Muskokas of Ontario, Canada.
He has educational clinics for ticket buyers who love to learn the blues on their guitars. You could do clinics on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and your band can play evenings as well .
The place is really great! Up close and personal with an 88 seat capacity.
Peter and his wife make you feel like you are at home. It would make a lovely vacation for you and your family if you could enjoy the rest of the week with them and the fishing up here is amazing.
Water sports and boating in summer. Lots of lakes and beautiful rock. If you like seeing the fall leaves or experiance the snow , it is so pretty .
You could make some cash and relax with the family. There sure is a lot of nice folks who would love your expertise.
Check them out on Facebook . You can do a search there.
I saw Johnny winter there this summer and his guitarist and players did extra clinics as weekend matinee .
Just thought I would let you know. You could be interested 🙂
you are a great guitar player
It’s good pedal, I like that sound, but is it skill or scale of blues? Some scales like a hardrock skill or scale, any way I like it, can I get that scale?
Tku
Hey Griff, Thanks for the pedal info. probably would be a good addition to my amp’s built-in’s. Really enjoyed seeing you rock out and watching those well-trained fingers fly through the frets.
(yes, the videographer needs to be replaced.)
Aloha,
Temple
thanks re sound symbol on video. now i have sound!
Aloha,
Temple
hey griff.great pedal.and what a guitar player. more please. thanks. roger……………..
Fantastic-I shell by one pedal soon!
Hover your mouse on the speaker icon. then slide the bar that pops up to the right to turn up sound level.
Hey, Griff – I get the video but no sound. Any suggestions?
The pedal sounds amazing and Griff’s playing shines through but tha camera work is absolutely abysmal. Quick jerky movements totally take away from the message and jump-cuts are NEVER a good thing. Very professional audio and guitar playing but below rank amateur camera work. Tripods exist for a reason! Use one!
Would like to acquire this pedal.
I live in Sandy Creek NY
Any dealers in Watertown NY?
There is a butt load of compression on the recording. Notice how the guy goes pingy-pingy, and at the end hits a chord and the volume jumps up with an unnatural amount of sustain. They must really want you to buy this pedal to misrepresent the real tone like that. I’m just sayin’…
Very nice pedal. But I’m very happy with my Okko Diablo and Visual Sound Double Trouble.
I have found this video very interesting, could you tell me if this pedal is one of the carlos Santana use in stage ? also can you watch on you tube Sierra Maestra and Elmer Ferrer ,and let me know if is this the case for use one of this? been honest whit you i found your videos very interesting ,and also i will buy your method , going forward in time (we are living in recession )but once the situation improves ,i would like to have that ……yours sincerely….. Efrain by the way i live in London…. regards
I get the video but no sound
I get video but no sound???
Beautiful display of the versatility of both the pedal and the artist. The concept of “spectrum” is clearly explained and demonstrated with different guitars.
I have not reached the stage where it will significantly make a difference to my sound, but nice to understand the differences it can make to different styles of music.
Great demo.
Yow’sa, yow’sa, yows’a !!!!
~~SwEeT !~~ 😉
Who’s holding the camera??? Too much “floating” around. It starts to become distracting.
Great demo. The reason there is no sound, is below the video bar (the red stripe that tracks along with the video) is a picture of a speaker with an X in front of it. Click on that and make the x go away. WooHoo sound! Love the sound of the Les Paul through it. I’d like to run that int my Dirty Little Secret pedal, that would be rad…
Cheers,
Jeff
Most enjoyable demo!
Cool pedal. Thanks
can you explain GAIN for us acoustic fools
I really couldn’t justify investing in the Noble Overdrive primarily because of the five (5) effect pedals I already own (i.e., wah-wah, fuzz box, Mutron- phase shifter, digital reverb & delay, Zoom 505 (…with 25 special effects!). Nevertheless, …I could tell my girl-friend to put it on my Xmas list this year!
NO SOUND!
NO SOUND GUYS? TRY TURNING UP THE VOLUME ON THE VIDEO. IT HAS A SPEAKER SYMBOL. CHECK THAT OUT. I NOTASTED IT WAS TURNED DOWN TO ZERO.
NOT BAD AT ALL! IS IT AN ANALOG PEDAL? SILICONE , OR GERMANNIUM TRANSISTORS?
I THINK YOUR OLD BOSS OD 1 PEDAL THATS BEEN TREAKED SOUNDS BETTER. REALLY SOUND BETTER WITH HUMBUCKERS.COST? BIG AND MOST IMPORTANT. HEARED OF “SUN FACE PEDLAS. DAVID GILMORE USES ONE. THERE SPECIAL ORDER TO YOUR SPECS AND WHAT KIND OF TRANSISTORS AND ALSO A KNOB TO ADJUST THE OUTPUT COLOR . ABOUT $275.00 FOR A CUSTOM PEDAL. I STILL HAVE MY 1979 IBANEZ TONE BLASTER. STOPPED USING PEDALS WHEN I STOP PLAYING IN A BAND. USE A BOSS ME 70. I GOT BRIAN MAYS TREBLE BOOSTER SOUND DIALED IN FROM BOHIEMAN RASPODY. THE LEAD IN GILMORES TIME, USING A B153 SUN FACE AND A MXB CARBON COPY. GOT THAT DIALED IN . DOESN’T HAVE THE WARMTH OF THE ANALOG PEDAL , BUT SOUNDS VERY CLEAN AND DOES NOT GET MUDDY. THANKS GRIFF. PAUL, D.
….also no sound………
Hey Griff, i’d like to hear this but i’m getting no sound–and my sound is working just fine for online stuff, etc. (MacOs10).
aloha,
Temple

I’ve had my Nobles ODR-1 for a couple of years now and still love it.if you check into it you’ll
Find that a lot Nashville session players have this pedal in there trick bag…
.
Hi Griff, the ODR pedal sounds great I personally don`t have a great deal of use for it but I might try it on one or two of my R n R numbers, just to see what it sounds like on my stuff !!! Catcha L8ter Jim UK
Too busy taking in your cool guitar work, so, didn’t notice the pedal that much! but the sounds you were putting out, especially with the LP sounded great, so it must be a good pedal, will have to re-run the vid, and take more notice of the merchandise. NICE ONE Griff! Ray (UK).
Hey great vid Griff! By the Way you can get the Nobel Pedal at ‘ProGuitarShop’ about 100.00 $ Sounds great ,Ya know German Engineering Made in China….!? I’m NOT a SNOB, it sounds Good and Stacks WELL with other pedals too, ( AMT, FULLTONE, CATLINBREAD, LOVE, HIP KITTY, VOODOO LAB, WAMPLER, DIGITECH, IBENEZ, T-REX CUSACK, Z-VEX, MXR and BOSS ) to name a Few. Really Like the thing, got 3 of them, 2 for a couple of my boards and 1 for a spare. You never know, sometimes things ‘JUST ‘ sprout LEGS and Walk, it wouldn’t be a Major set back, if one did! However, I’d be extremely P. O ! AND it uses the 4558 Chip! Easy to Mod, if you wanted to. Well that’s my 2.5 cents, Love you playing Griff! YAH BLESS YOU!!! Cheerful Art ( E.T. SOUND and LIGHT )
Tried a couple times Griff, but this thing has no SOUND.
Cool pedal. Thanks.
And may people think pedals are not that essential anymore as modern amps will have all the effects built in!
Also great to hear Griff, that you are an excellent rock guitar player as we students mostly see and hear you playing Blues.
Sounds great you also have a great guitar player also
I hope you got my request to be an agent for you in North Wales UK. I’m definately worth a shot. It’s a win win situation for you
Yours hopefully William Winstanley
Griff, first let me say thanks for all you do teaching us. I’ve learned a bunch but I’m still basically a rythm guy.
Do you have any experience with the Boss ME 50 FX board?
Nice demo. You should do more pedal, amp, guitar demos.
Pedal sounds great. You’re right, not a Tube Screamer clone. It should sound good through my Blues Junior.
I’m also looking at the Wampler Euphoria. Any thoughts?
Mike
Griff the shred WOW exellent pedal But you need to be an axe man. One day maybe.
Griff, that was great. I mixed me up my new invention, a Tarantino [a Bloody Mary cut with 15% Tonic] and enjoyed your demo.
Thing is, d’y think that a pedal like this is useful if you have a modelling amp [Peavey Vyper]?
Best
Chris Nation
Very nice pedal, very versatile you can do a lot with it. Thanks for the demo.
Do your students get a discount? 🙂
It would be really helpful if you put together DVD lessons on AMPs & Pedals.
Man, it sounds good here on the web page. I will ask about the details in another post!
Now, if I get that pedal will my fingers work like Griff’s? He’d sound good playing through a bicycle pedal!
sweet gotta get me one
I’m sorry I don’t know anything about pricing or availability worldwide… and as far as compared to a tube screamer this is definitely more open and transparent based on the knob settings. If the spectrum knob is lower it gets more TS-like, but as you open that spectrum knob it gets a bit more like an OCD or something similar. I actually think I like it better than my OCD.
As always, its a pleasure watching you demo anything. I always want to buy whatever it is and end up with a smile listening to your playing. Oh, and the pedal sounds great! Haha
Loved it.i would definitely use it.particularly the sweet spot setting..it really brought out the best of the Gibson though..but hey, that’s the difference between stat and gibs..loved it..Thanx guys
Griff is just great and could play a guitar using a bicycle pedal !!!!!
Love it ! Thanks Griff!
How would you compare the Novels ODR-1 to the Ibanez Tube Screamer -TS808?
Haven’t seen a new Noble pedal in years. There doesn’t seem to be a UK importer any more.
Sounds good. What’s the price comparison with the likes of Boss pedals. Excellent review as ever Griff
awesome pedal. enough said
