Why so few posted recordings with 2000 members?

I think most important... from what I have seen on this forum is that most all of the comments on peoples posted recordings have been complimentary and constructive.

This seems to be a great community of people at various levels of playing ability and provides a good amount of encouragement & motivation.

I recently bought a Line6 Pod Studio UX2 and finally installed Audacity on my PC last night. As soon as I figure how to make it all work... I plan to "put myself out there".

I am fairly shy, but I think getting encouragement and consructive comments from the community will help me in my learning and progress.

BTW, we are all here to help with the recording and the only "Stupid Question", is the one that goes Un-Asked!

been here.....
Glad we found out Why... & that's why I always rave on it's (recording) benefit, probably to the point of "running something into the ground" for someone listening to rants and uninterested in topic. Simple as it is, posting a recording & playing a guitar are different endeavors. However, for learning from doing & really hearing what I did: Recording's a must, for me......  [smiley=beer.gif]

Well Cynicure....I guess my 'next excuse'  will have to be another plain ole truth.  ...
and that is :   it's really more important for me to work on  new/current bass material in order to give a good performance 3 nights a week....I can't afford to make a mistake during a set.  Bass players who make mistakes don't have jobs.    While it would be nice to record the BGU and SWS practice time  it doesn't pay money...my bass job does pay money.

So truth # 1 is :   hands on practice time on bass , vocals , and guitar is much more important than recording BGU SWS  for the forum.

Truth #2   I'm not good with computers and I  don't want to  waste any more time on trying to figure out how to get recordings onto the computer.  I gain much more experience and knowledge spending an evening  jamming with friends and at band practice ...plus  it's  more fun .

I do appreciate all the help and offers of help from you great folks here on the forum.
I hope this answers your question  Cynicure.   :)

Okay Rue; that sounds like a fair enough excuse...

But have you never thought of maybe recording your jam sessions? Or even some of your live performances? You could use a simple mp3 player and give us amateurs a real treat... and it would amount to free advertising for your band!

Cheers!

Hi Rue, well your light years ahead of me - your in a Band (I can only dream of such a thing), and can get all the feedback you need I'm sure. Maybe you could play some of the BBG and SWS stuff to the band if you need feedback.
With me, I'm on my own in my bedroom practicing, so posting to the Forum is a great way of getting feedback.
So in your case, quite right not the highest priority.
Still, nice to hear some of your stuff in the future - no pressure. ;D

What is an MP3 player ??  what does interface  mean ??   how does an I-pod work ?   how do I make parts of my post on here in yellow ?  how do I make someone else's comment appear in my post ??   how do I make the post on 4 share open ?   how do I save a file...and then how can I find it again?   get the message ???   lol

the guys do record some of the gigs/practice sets we do and we use those to improve our playing..especially on new material.
I have shown them a couple things from Griff's SWS that I'm having a problem with and they show me what they know..it's very helpful...a visual is worth dozens of explanations in words.

We're not looking for more work so don't want any advertising ...3 nights a week is more than enough to play and we don't want to travel far to play...some of us in the band are old.  Playing music is physically hard work , especially bass just for the weight and standing all night.

I really enjoy the forum and Griff's courses are 'the bomb'  .  I'm confident I'll be able to do some solo runs in the future to enhance my own solo work...but for now, it's bass if I want to play with a group.

Actually , I've  never listened to any of the recorded lessons  on the forum...everyone is at their own place in their music  and I encourage everyone to enjoy  and have fun with it but what others are  doing doesn't have a thing to do with where I'm at and what I'm doing.   I'm just not  a person who needs the approval of others about anything really...I ride the trail of my chose    ;)

Yeah personally I need to record stuff for improvement and to reach my goals. If you're already a paid musician then you know what you're doing, and already somewhat successful, so it wouldn't be as important. If you're not, there's no reason not to. I've still never spent a penny on recording stuff, I just used an old camera, and then a little flip one that someone gave me.

Good for you Tim.
I found the setup of the UX pretty straightforward and after updating with the monkey I was off and running.
Audacity was a breeze and even a year later I'm still finding out all the useful features it has.
If you have any problems don't be afraid to ask.

Almost there I think (& hope).

Got POD Farm installed (& updated), guitar plugged in, noise coming out the headphones and meters on the UX2, POD
Farm & Audacity all registering something.

Now to play a few chords & licks with the record button on, export it to MP3, register a 4-SHARED account & see if I can get a sample recording out there (just going to be a few things with a preset POD Farm rig to see if I can tie all this stuff together). Actually, this is kind of fun too as I have never done anything like it before.

Then onto recording an actual BBG lesson... I'm making my way  ;)

Tim ..when you try to export to MP3 it will prompt you to download the lame dll.
Do that and stick it in the Audacity program folder on your C drive and you're off and running with mp3 exports from Audacity.

Thanks for that Strato... I had already downloaded the .dll file thanks to the wonderful information on these forums  ;)

I'm excited for ya Tim.  I learned it all in a similar way & was just thrilled beyond imagining when I heard my first recorded notes playing back at me.  Looking forward to your first posted recording.  If you're like me you'll also record an abundance of stuff just for fun/experimentation that you may never post on the forum.

It's well worth it Tim
Last night I listend to my first recordings of solo 1 and 2 and I never realised how much things have changed. I'll get around to recording my current version on teh weekend and post both for everyone's comparison. As well as solo 3 (4 bars to go- at 80% speed, cant get much quicker than that yet!).
Scary thing is that I have noticed that I am actually putting some vibrato on some notes (Griff did say that they will happen by themselves - I just never believed him - who am I to distrust him!!!!).
Its amazing and well worth it. althought I have found it to be totally addicitve, especially when your practice sounds great, press record and it sounds like Tibeten Throat Singers. So you it again, and again. 3 hours later you get annoyed (Insert your own adjective here!) and just post what you've got. In the meantime you've been practicing for hours and you didnt even realise it.
I love this place.
Looking forward to the posts.
Cheers
Gary

Download free Audacity and get a Line 6 UX1 to interface with your pc and guitar. Follow the directions given with both.
If you have specific questions we are here to help.
Total cost 150 bucks and you have a recording studio plus a bunch of amps and effects to choose from to enhance your guitars sound. That's what I did and it works great.
That is one way out of many.
===============================
So all you need to do now is play your recordings at a
Karaoke Bar while "playing" your guitar and "singing" with it,
and you'll have a complete band that only plays what you
want. Should help sell the brew as well, as the folks try to find the drummer, bass player, etc. Obviously you put the
Karaoke machine behind your 5W Fender practice amp.
