Can somebody point me to the thread avout shortening the dropbox download to dl as opposed to "dropbox". Cannot for the life of me remember how to do it.

Hey Larry,

before,

after,

dl.dropbox.com/scl/fi/l45wadfhnebo6p4x6n73h/Waiting-for-a-Friend.wav?rlkey=k0vzkn0muoe6q4pt7f8h19oy1&dl=0

I just start backspacing after the last w in "www" and type in dl.

Good to hear I'm not the only one that does the "dang, I know I know that" thing.

Take care,

edit// stupid thing changed my dropbox syntax to what you see, but you get the idea :)

I found this after a fair amount of digging...

"Yeah, the dl part means that it’s an automatic download url, which means the link automatically makes you download the file/folder"

@CaptainMoto got me on doing this when I was posting frequently in the VJR. Do you remember why Moto?

I thought it gave the person attempting to view the Dropbox link a more direct path to viewing the link, without being hassled with the appearance that they have to join Dropbox to view the file (which is not the case either way). I don't think it is the end of the world either way, "dl" just provides a more simple viewing path with less Dropbox recruiting efforts directed at the would be viewer, and gives a different graphic view of the file being played.

I believe that was the long way to say that it doesn't really matter. Also if you go to Dropbox QA it looks like they are very busy changing things all the time.

It looks like you can also add "dl-0" or "DL-1" to the end of the link, another mystery to ponder.

Oh the wonders of the internet huh? you can find a reason for everything, may or may not be the correct reason though :)

Yeah, that's how I've always downloaded stuff shared on DropBox. The link defaults to the dl-0 ending, which means "download: no." Change the zero to a one and the no becomes a yes.

No[w], can someone tell me why I want to do that? LOL

TBH, I prefer the default, especially for scrolling through a VJR recording to a particular time-stamp, which is a PITA with the compact player (and nearly impossible with a touchscreen). I also appreciate the overview of the song that you get from the levels graphic in the regular player. I don't think it's hard to figure out how to download from that screen, either.

actually I guess I do too. I just thought that I was somehow being a bit more considerate of others when I can remember to use the DL.

All this info, and I learned "TBH" courtesy of the source of all contemporary knowledge, the browser. :) I already knew PITA well.

When I go to bed, I usually sleep on my side

I'm thinking that habit is causing too much stuff to leak out of my brain.

Consequently my memory fails me quite often

I have not been as active as I used to be in the VJR and ..........I noticed that I had slipped away from the "dl" protocol.. OOOPS.
I just post the DrobBox link the next person needs to download the file in order to import it into their DAW
If it is changed to the "dl" then it the link can be saved as an MP3 directly from the VJR with no need to download from DB.
