SRV’s Pride And Joy is one of my all time favorite songs. In this lesson we’ll look at the intro lick and you’ll see how it could be played.

And here’s the TAB for what I just demonstrated

Hey Griff, enjoying my BGU2 and some others I have. Love SRV pride n joy. Do you think you’ll guide us with the rest of the song. Love to get those little tips you can only get from watching your DVD or Utube.
Really hanging out to play it and try and sing along so can go to a jam Sunday and pull of the song. Cheers Kepp those Blues flowing and done good old rock n roll.

  7. Eddy Canfor-Dumas says:

Good stuff. Always helps if you play the whole thing at the start of each video so we have a guide/reference point for what’s coming next.

    Thanks.

  8. Derek Budd says:

    Great stuff, thanks

  9. Bob C says:

Peter Green got me going with his incredible sound – but your instruction keeps me going in quest of the “sound” of SRV and others.

  10. Rustie says:

Having seen heard literally dozens of guitar tutors, it is beyond doubt that Griff is head and shoulders above the rest…….and he’s personable with it.

  11. Kearney McGrath says:

It would be helpful if you opened the lessons with a practical demo before starting a note by note review. It would provide context.

  12. Joe says:

I was about to go ape on you until you promised to go into the next part of the song in your next video!

I thought we were just gonna get this great intro and then nuthin.

    Whew! Looking forward to more.

P.S. I love SRV too. I saw him open for Jeff Beck (he blew Beck out of the water).

  13. Gene Rife says:

    Griff…I really like this,please keep sending lessons.Gene

  14. Johan Mynhardt says:

Hi Griff, Having just started the acoustic blues guitar course it is nice to get these little titbits in between. I have never done bends before so it gives me a little jumpstart if it should come up in my acoustic blues guitar course. (I am only at Down to the station) a long way to go yet.

  15. John Bosquet-Morra says:

I sometimes play the second part of the intro riff on the 12th fret — ballsier!

  16. Paul Warner says:

I like and use open string whenever I can because I love the sound, and I use two note chords for the same reason. I use to think if you weren’t using three and more fingers for a guitar chord you weren’t much of a guitar player, but it turns out that some of these two note chords are pretty delicious sounding too.

  17. Lee says:

Why did you write this out as straight eighth yet when you play it it’s a dotted eighth followed by a sixteenth note?

  18. Julie says:

Good explanation on the intro part. Will you be teaching the rest of the song? I hope so. Im struggling with the strumming part. Getting the shuffling sound while playing the chord progression. Getting it to sound correctly. Thanks Griff.

  19. Stephen Davies - Kent UK says:

I loved it – i am a new member to the BGU family and am awaiting delivery of the Beginners course and cannot wait to get more into it.
Stuff like this is inspirational to both new and more seasoned players.
Keep it up Griff – can’t wait to see the next section.

  20. Steven Siegel says:

Stevie Ray’s Style was so simple it is difficult to master. Or should I say getting into his head in his music out put of his style.

Great brake down of it. I have not my self mastered his style. I am still stuck in my own.

  21. gary says:

how would this sound on a non-electric guitar.

  22. Louie says:

    Thanks so much Griff.
I really enjoy your expertise & teaching style.

  23. Michael Chappell says:

    Hi Griff,
Great refresher, I have saved it for later as right into some other BGU courses at present.

Come on Griff, teach the song!!

  26. Ray (UK) says:

Yep! mind numbingly dull to start with and I’m thinking, “it needs ramping up”, then you did it. Love it. Maybe I’ll Youtube the song and listen to it all the way through now as I use that riff all the time, without the first 3 bars. Nice one Griff. Ray UK

  27. Jim King says:

Good stuff to know. I like that it has legs – play it on an acoustic and slide, rather than bend, the turnaround and you have another way to use this intro. So much of what Griff teaches has other uses. Keeps me ‘Playin’ on the Porch’.

  28. Jim C says:

Griff, have you ever considered doing a video on muting unwanted strings, especially when releasing a bend?

  29. Jesus says:

Wow you male it look easy, always enjoy watching your videos

Sometimes the best sounds are the simplest.

  36. Maria Pisano says:

Yay he is my favorite, I’m playing for only 4 years and I think I’m ready to try this. I save all your videos , they have made learning guitar fun even though I’m a late starter, I love it, I hope to play and learn for many more years. I’m 66 and have a Strat that is easy and comfortable to play. Thank you for the knowledge you share .Maria

  41. Johnny says:

Ditto Randy Boesel, Looking forward to that next rhythm also…

  42. Chris nation says:

    Griff, you did it again

This is an intro that should be well worth the time and trouble [even Double Trouble] but when your clip kicked off with ” ….my middle finger on the 5th fret …” my head hit the desk.

Why not play the lick thru’ first? Let’s hear it all, straight up. Get us excited about it before we go into wherever our middle finger should be.

  43. John Nitkowski says:

    Coo

  44. Troy Barnes says:
