Am I tone Deaf

I'm well aware that my guitar USB equipment is nowhere near "top quality", but I can't hear a difference between my first act or yamaha guitars while I'm playing them through the computer. They are both "beginner" guitars, but so is my Samik Fastback. The FB sounds much "more expensive" and has thicker tone as far as I'm concerned. If you're interested in listening, I did make some goofball mistakes on the Full Out Blues. I even screwed up the fingering for E7 on 1 of them  ::)

Now that I listen to them, I can plainly hear a difference, but like I said, I can't while I'm playin'. And wow! I did screw up like I'd never played them before  :-[ .

Russ I think that was not too bad. I think that all that you need to do is make it smoother. The sound and technique is there to my untrained ear but it is choppy.  :)

Try playing the guitars through the amp with same settings on the amp & guitars - no effects pedals - see if there is any noticeable difference then.

Yeah LP the computer program resets the settings to particular levels every time you record something, so everything is the same. I can plainly hear the difference when I'm on my amp. I just wanted to know if I was the only 1 who couldn't hear the computer difference. Like I said, I could hear the dif after recording them.

Funny, I'm still afraid of the record button. I don't usually sound that bad with that lesson  ::) .

Nice work Russ. Your recordings really very good and your playing has been coming along too. It' great to hear you!

Here is my thought on the guitars just from your recordings:
1.) the Yamaha appears to have a lower recording level so it will sound thinner when compared to a louder recording. I think it sounds nice.
2.) The First Act appears to have some tuning problems maybe intonation is out. I'm not sure if it is adjustable on that guitar.
3.) the FB does sound nice.

It's fun to record and listen!

Thanks Dave

All of the guitars are adjustable. We just went through a seriously high % of humidity. Last week, we had pretty bad storms and the house humidity rose 14%. All the guitars are slowly coming back into usable positions, but I think I will have to re-work them a little. I think the best thing to do is change the hardware and "make my own" pups. That'll come in time......when the kids graduate in 4 years....  ::)

Thanks for fibbing about my playing. The more I play that tune, the worse it gets  :p . Thanks for understanding I wasn't trying to showcase the playing, but the TONE of each. All the recordings I was just trying to have a conversation with were being archived even when I asked for them not to be, so I don't typically post recordings except for 1sts and Finals anymore.
