Texas Flood Intro Stevie Ray Vaughan
I've always dug this particular song and it's a great example of several things I cover in Blues Guitar Unleashed.
First, it uses the major blues scale (box 2) into my favorite little 7th chord move from the breaks in lesson 6. Then a little more blues scale box 2 into the C9 (lesson 3.)
Always good to see this stuff at work 🙂

As a novice I feel your video lessons are great. I can’t wait until I save enough to buy in to BGU.
Keep up the outstanding work and keep encouraging us, your students.
Hi will you send the notes for this riff ?
Really enjoy your work
Alan, Griff tells states in his openings sentence to this lesson;
“I’ve always dug this particular song and it’s a great example of several things I cover in Blues Guitar Unleashed”
If you don’t have the BGU teachings, I would highly recommend getting them if you are a novice or otherwise. Great stuff int he printout he provides as well.
Good luck
Good stuff! I’m advanced enough to learn from your intro info, but I’m going to order the 29 Jam Tracs to practice to. While I’ve been using a lot of the notes, I didn’t realize that there were major pentatonic scales and another door is opening…Is there any way to send you videos? I’m not very technically proficient as far as computers go…Anyhoo, thanks for helping so many people learn. When I go to jams I see so many who need to get your ‘Blues Unleashed’. It should be required before some of these jokers are allowed on stage (lol).
Great lesson, would you put the tab download also, I’m a slow learner
More good stuff! Thx!!
Lesson is great as always…For me It would make it easier to understand if you’d play the piece before going into the breakdown of the notes.
Thanks DBC
Griff, on the 6th chord it looks like both your little finger and your first finger are on the second string. I know it just looks that way. Where are your fingers?
i HAVE YOUR bLUES COURSE. yOUR VIDEOS HAVE BEEN A MOTIVATOR AS WELL AS A GOOD LEARNING DEVICE. tHANKS
That was really good, got a lot of my questions resolved on Texas Flood’s intro. Thanks.
Thanks again Griff for the lesson. Have several of your courses and am impressed with how each seems to hit my weakness.
I bought acoustic blues unleashed about a month ago.
I have been poking at guitars for 60 years can play many tunes but needed, and wanted to learn where the notes are and fill in all the basics that one does’t get copying what a friend shows you how to play and I am proud to say that the more I practice the more I get from your video lessons.
Your casual style and insight into my learning psyche is wonderful.
Thank you,
Howard Spruit
Griff, this is a very cool lesson. So much we can do to create our own variation. Thanks for sending. Mike Z.
As always – Tab would be really useful
Another great SRV lesson, Thanks Griff, Mike
Nice little piece with great ideas.
Thks
Enjoyed the video. There are so many riffs that incorporate a portion of a chord it’s amazing. Thank you again for the SRV tips. Now if I can just get the “Tex-Mex Rack” strum down I will be much happier with how I play the Tex-Mex SRV, Los Lonely Boys sound.
LIke You said might be good to review absoultly hear a litte better see a bit more and add to what alredy know . This is one of the best tune too!!
this is just f ing awesome Griff thanks and the puzzel is starting to really take shape I really dig SRV Really a great artist and very much missed
Love these little lessons you send. Everyone else would make me pay extra for this lesson. It’s a huge perk getting this stuff for BGU members and I know I really appreciate it. Thanks Griffin.
great job Griff. Am enjoying BCU. Am making progress, but wish I could practice more. luv it.
Thanks Griff for those great lessons .I’m always looking forward to see the next ones…
Nice lesson griff you know you never stop discovering another lick from the licks you know the more you do that the better you get —-as long as it’s in time thAts the boring bit not letting go cause as soon as I do I’m somewhere else and not counting ( concentrating) but nice lesson thankyou
I have some of your courses, and I watch all of the videos you send via email. You are a great teacher and a great guitarist. I wish you were somewhere near NJ, as I would take lessons with you.
Great lesson as always with a great teacher.
When are you and your band coming to Sydney Australia to do some Gigs. You must have by now a great following from us BGU members in Australia.
Great teacher
Great lesson, will be lots of fun.
Looking forward to the next one.
Hi Griff: I hear so much about the box patterns, but I can’t find them anywhere on the net. Would you please publish them for some us beginners. I really enjoy your video’s. Thanks Danny
As always Griff – little tid-bits that are extremely useful
Yes , l have always liked the sound of the opening of that tune.So simple yet it seizes your ears attention. Good one Griff. l like that you let us know to play our own riffs once into it . After all it is the rhythm that makes it sound so good .
Hi Griff
Can you provide us all the TAB sheet for this as it makes it so much easier as a refresh when we are looking something.
Thanks
Michael Sydney Australia
Griff, that was great. Thanks, as I’m in a SRV kinda mood right about now. Woke up yesterday early (Sunday) and caught the video of Stevie doing Crossfire! Man that guy could play! And yes, I see the correlation to the BGU lessons. Thanks again.
Good stuff griff cant wait for my copy of bgu strat n hotrod will be pumping
Griff, thank you again for so many little extras you send us. I just got BGU 2.0 and am very happy to get back on track with solo #4 slow blues in G!
Jake
Thanks Griff. I look forward to all your lessons. SRV is the greatest. I love to learn his stuff.
I just got BGU v 2. The built-in metronome alone is worth the price of the upgrade. How about, maybe at the end of each mini-lesson, including a once through with the metronome? Thanks.
Griff,
Really cool sounds in this lesson! One thing I realized when you explain the use of “Box 1 and Box 2” is that in other lessons you’ve used both MINOR boxes 1 and 2. Here, Box 1 is MINOR and Box 2 MAJOR (which you state). This puts your fingers at way different positions on the neck, but they’re BOTH “Box 2!”
Another great lesson thanks for all you do for us Griff !!!
Thanks for the lesson Griff as always they’re great look forward to all of them
Being a BGU member has ongoing benefits. These little tid-bits, tips, and riffs really add to the learning experience.
I have been away for 2 months and missed your emails! Great stuff and so well explained Griff.
Thanks for breaking it down. I will be stealing it.
I lost this one last year and didnt reall work on it .So now I will, good lesson with great tech. .
Good song !
whoa nilly…box 1 and box 2 …;-)
trying to learn boxes not hard but just confusing,1-2,1-4,5-1,, which order where to start?
Hey Griff,
Always a great reminder. Also would be great if you would provide the Tab sheet as I find it easier to follow you reading the Tab sheet as I am playing.
Thanks
Michael-Sydney-Australia
Excellence Maestro!
One of my favourite SRV tracks, purchased the ful tab from guitarinstructor.com. However didn’t appreciate the A6 chord & C9 on 15th fret. For the person who queried the fingering for A6, think C7 shape and move to adjacent strings(5th fret) The lead at the end is mainly box 1 almost chuck Berry style & house minor. Why does it always sound so much better when you listen to accomplished players play it? Well the answers in the question I suppose. “Way to Carnegie Hall, practice, practice, practice?”
Oops 3rd fret
Thanks again Griff. I love SRV and his ability to never get lost. (Eric C said this) I’m beginning to understand his train of thought, I think. Your breakdowns are very helpful!
Thanks boss I really get a lot out of these lessons. I’ve been taking your daily lessons for quite awhile I’ve been watching and re-watching them I have finally started to put them to use on the guitar I have noticed that my fingers aren’t very good yet. I can do most of the tabs just a few things are hard like bar chords. I know just keep practicing right. Thanks so much God bless you brother
I love you man, and have learned so much from the blues course I bought and your emails. But can I make one constructive criticism? If at the very beginning of each video you play the piece you’re about to show us slow and in pieces, but play it as should be in normal time so we know what the ultimate achievement we are striving for. Frankly, sometimes I get lost and don’t follow a lesson because Im not sure what Im supposed to be doing. I hope this makes sense. Nonetheless I have managed to learn more from your lessons than anywhere else live or on video.
It’s been awhile…Thanks, Griff!
