Texas Flood Intro Stevie Ray Vaughan
I've always dug this particular song and it's a great example of several things I cover in Blues Guitar Unleashed.
First, it uses the major blues scale (box 2) into my favorite little 7th chord move from the breaks in lesson 6. Then a little more blues scale box 2 into the C9 (lesson 3.)
Always good to see this stuff at work π

So funny–I was playing your “Further on up the Road” lesson and wondering what else I could do with those cool little hammer-on 7ths. Now I know! As always, thank you!
Thanks for giving us a little SRV lick. I’m a beginner and I really think this is a cool lick. I’m on lesson 5 in Blues Guitar Unleashed and it is nice to use some of the cords from these lessons.
Griff comes through again with another good lesson. Thank You Griff. You’re a great teacher.
Great stuff Grif
Have not watched the video yet. But I daresay it will top notch as usual. Great stuff.
Thank you Griff, You Γ‘re a great teacher
Good lesson, it is flooding in Louisiana right now, it’s been pouring down rain for two weeks straight. Help me Stevie, help me !!!
Hey Griff, which should Android users download?
We don’t all have pc’s nowadays. π
And we don’t all use Mac or Windows on our PC either.
What should Linux users use?
LOL. Either. Linux uses them both.
Great lesson
What a launching pad
Many thanks Grif
Great stuff Griff, you make it seem so easy. You are a great blues man.
Great stuff Griff.
Great song, great job Griff.Keep the good stuff coming
Hey Griff _ Awesome_ Ive often thought about this lick and never been able to work it out properly. In 5 minutes you’ve taught it brilliantly. Another in the bag for me. Thanks so much. Chris.
Hi Griff,
Great refresher as I am still going through BGU and see how all this fits in.
I had a few delays due to my eye sight which now 20/20 after cataract surgery . Michael-Sydney-Australia-Aug 2016
Hey Griff, got it!! Being upside down left handed, I had to improvise a little and that is what makes it so fun!! After seeing SRV and Albert King in the sessions video I had thought that Albert looked clumsy, then I realized I look the same because of the up-side down factor. TAP
I like it great stuff as usual Clive Farthing Derby England.
Good stuff Griff, I love how this opens it up for our own creativity.
Thank you so much.
Christopher
Great lesson and good timing given the flooding in Texas going on now.
Can’t follow on the guitar yet. My rehab isn’t that far along but this is great stuff. Love SRV.
Great lesson but really great explanation of the scales that accompany the riff. Classic timing because it is flooding here in the Dallas area now which is home to SRV and his blues roots…
Great lesson.I love the way you take chords we know and make them work.
Love the way you make chords we know, work.RIP Stevie
Great minds think alike…when hurricane Harvey showed up in Texas, right after SRVs 27th anniversary of his death, AND the BGU Live road trip was announced for TX, this song must’ve crossed my mind at least a dozen times! Thank you! And best wishes for Texas!
Ironic that “Texas Flood” is the topic with much of Southeastern Texas suffering through the worst flooding in its history.
Very cool, “Griff the Riff. “
I remember the radio announcement while I was at work about Stevie. I will never forget watching him or his music. Today it is flooding like crazy in Texas and parts of Louisiana. Pray for us, this storm Harvey is bad.
I am in the middle of Hurricane Harvey and literally humming this song . I wonder if Stevie got his inspiration from watching floods in South Texas. As usual another great lesson on the blues that is iconic in timing and sound! Can’t wait to see you in Allen TX.
Great lesson. Flooding in Texas, what a subject. I love this song. I’ll be trying this one. Thanks Griff!!!
Thanks Griff! You really dumb it down and make it easy to follow, I think I may learn how to play finally, after all these years. As an aside, I broke into the BGU and around lesson 15 you have that song with all the tasty chords, I’m enjoying slugging away at that. More of that type of presentation would by awesome!
I appreciate the lesson. Can one appreciate the talent of an artist like SRV and still not care for them. I have always been bored with his stuff.
Hey Gary, I donβt feel that way about SRV but I totally understand. I feel the same way about Joe Bonamassa. I think he is an awesome guitar player and like several of his songs and even seen him in concert ( which was one of my least favorite) but after listening to a few songs of JB shredding through scales my brain hurts
Aesome…thank you. It’s funny I’m in Austin and I ran this morning from Palmer Auditorium to the the state capital down town and past the SRV statue and saluted him. He was absolutely one of my favorite all time greatest blues guitar players. I remember hearing him practice in Lockhart, TX down the street from my uncle’s house.
Still love and miss SRV. He’s left his legacy for us and we appreciate you Griff for showing all Blues lovers his skill and Art. Thank you.
hey T.Y. for the re-fresher
Another sweet little trick, thanks Griff!
Terrific lesson Griff, really great trick. As always thoroughly enjoyed it and the way it was presented is excellent with the split screen.
Thanks again Griff!

Thanks Griff. Really impressed with your teaching style. I bought the BGI course as an intermediate player and am really seeing the benefits.
Hey Griff, your content is always top notch and I love the laid back style of your teaching which gets the lesson across so well. You are my favourite online teacher bar non. Mike (Leicestershire, England)
Thanks! Love that SRV – sweet riff to learn and learning about major blues scale.
thanks very good stuff,
Nice one Griff. π
You should change your name to Griff Bone Hamlin. ;)β
Every day is a great day for SRV! Wonderful lesson thank you Griff
Thanks for the srv licks. I am a slow learner. I finally got box 1. Time to learn box 2.
Srv is 66 just like me. He played a niteclub where I was singing back up.
He had just done a concert that nite. Walked in, we knew who he was. He went on stage and started jamming. What a cool dude. I loved him for sure.
Very much appreciated here, Griff.
Great artist, great blues licks and great teacher.
Thank you!
Like this video. Recovering from carpul tunnel release surgery on left hand. This exercise works well for me. SRV is a good day.
Thanks Griff! What a fantastic song, especially the live versions.
