SRV’s Pride And Joy is one of my all time favorite songs. In this lesson we’ll look at the intro lick and you’ll see how it could be played.

And here’s the TAB for what I just demonstrated

Good stuff, Griff. But it would be awesome if you *always* played the thing through before explaining it. That gives the rest of the lesson a grounding, context etc.

  15. Michael Chappell says:

    Hi Griff,

Great little Lick, I also can’t wait for the rest perhaps in video two. Also I bet everyone would like to order a BGU T-Shirt that you are wearing so we can spread the news outdoors.
For Donald & Michael… age if Donald is playing at 80 then that is great encouragement as I am approaching 68..keep it up as Griff makes it so easy.

  16. you have been a godsend griff the way you come across to us and also, and this is important, the way that you do not babble on and on about your history, and what ever else that the other guys do not need to be wasting our time with ,but do…you get to the point in a direct to the point kind of way with just enough talk/lesson ratio, that keeps a student interested and learning which is the idea is it not. my hat off to you

  17. Dan Huffman says:

    Another great lesson.
    Thanks Griff

  20. Though I’ve been playing SRV for years now I’ve never seen the A bend I use a slight slide to the next fret and some bend on that. Nice anyway thx.

  21. T-Dwain says:

Griff, thanks so much for sharing the SRV intro/lick. I have never been accused of being a quick study, but you break it down so even I can understand, get the riff in my head and find my way around the fret board. You are a very gifted teacher. Oh yea, thanks for the included tab and the downloads also!

  27. One of the very best things about Blues Guitar Unleashed is all the free information you receive for free in the form of Emails from Griff.
The wealth of information I’ve received for free exceeds the cost of the coarse many many times.

  34. Jim Mitchell says:

Good stuff. Can you also talk (soon) about how you get your tone. Amp settings and any pedals you’re using? I imagine you covered this before but I couldn’t find it on be forum. Thanks again!
    Jim

  35. Bill Roth says:

    Griff:
You may have answered this before but I could not find it. Is there a note in a lead that leads to the chords? What I mean is this; I have been sitting and just playing with licks or notes, something sounds good. How do I take that and work into the chord progression that makes sense-like this rolls into an E.

  36. Greg says:

Steve Ray Vaughan was not on my radar, as a player for many years – silly me eh? As always Griff you come up with the goods. I possibly have mentioned several times of how I married into a very musical family and how that can be intimidating at time. One of the things always covered off is “Performing Rights” i.e. the legal situation you alluded to. I sincerely hope it gets resolved for every body both sides of the pond.

  41. Gail says:

  49. Matthew says:

Griff you the man your courses are helping me so much and the added videos are great. Will pride joy be in our monthly blues greats. I have 2 other ex army guys on pensions like me onto your courses. As I really feel playing guitar helps my anxiety and PTSD. The courses are so well produced and your easy to understand. Never thought I’d buy a course online now I have a few of yours getting through BGU2 fantastic and have slow blues supplement and little wing and major minor shapes as was bit easier with your birthday discount as our $$ is crap at moment. Save get the 52 rhythm course down the line as blew savings in the other courses even the acoustic be really cool as I like to play it as well. Love my Strats and a Tele Joe Bonamassa Epiphone not a Gibson but got all the good parts and plays great. Thanks for everything.

  50. Maurice Mason says:

You’re as good a teacher as you are a player. Please show us the rest of this song. and Thanks.
