How To Fish, Not A Fish…

Here’s the funny thing about the whole “teach a man (or woman) to fish” philosophy…

At this point, you may not know what you know.

I know that sounds weird, but let’s really quickly run down the skills that will be used in this video, and where you’ve learned them – this is really important so please don’t skip this step!

Here’s What We’re Looking At

So these are lessons that are out of the course that touched on particular skills that are common in blues. What’s important is the common part because that means that if you learn these skills, you’ll recognize them when they come along in literally thousands of different songs.

You should have already seen these things before if you’ve been through these lessons:

  • Lesson 1 – the G7 Blues
  • Lesson 2 – The 12 Bar Blues Form
  • Lesson 3 – the 9th chord shapes
  • Lesson 5 – The Blues Half Step
  • Lesson 15 – The A Minor Blues Scale

So assuming you have done all of those lessons already, this should be a total piece of cake for you to learn and put to use.

BUT DON’T STOP THERE! Open your ears when you listen to music and listen for these sounds in other situations. I absolutely guarantee that if you listen for these sounds you absolutely will hear them every day.

Thanks, I needed that. The runs, fills and trills between the chords are excellent and can be adapted and used in other blues.

The concepts will be very useful.

  2. Working 8 hours a day + commuting 4 hours a day and… Oh well that my lot and I’m not complaining but I don’t have much time. So I still trying to get through BGU2 I’m at the 36 bar of slow blues. But this lesson was so delightful to piece together lessons in a playable way is just fantastic. More .. much more of this please.

Hang in there. The key is to be able to play a little every day, even if it is 15 minutes. These lessons are recorded and you can get them anytime, even a year from now. At least, that is how I do it.

I am a home guitarist and enjoy neat solos like Slow Blues In C.

I do wish all music would be written in 4/4 time.

I open all your e-mails and enjoy some one talking about playing guitar.

I don’t get out much with other guitarist.

  5. Thanks for this lesson. You might want to consider an indexing of all the lessons in your courses for the practice generator to highlight which lessons in which courses feature certain skills and concepts. This would be of great value to your all access pass subscribers.

I study your music and teaching everyday. I’m a beginner to guitar but I’m a 40 year vet of the piano. My question is Tech related. I’m a custom guitar builder. I’m working on my 8th guitar. A Flame maple semi hollow body Strat…with a F-hole. It has a leapord wood fret board. It will be a very over the top guitar. My question is….what is the your favorite electronic set-up. I was planning on Twin Humbuckers…but what kind? and what about control?
Two volumes / two tones .two tones/ one volume
PRS uses some advanced electronics…I see you play a green PRS…I listened very carefully when you were discussing your petal set-ups. That was eye opening…
Sometimes….as a builder…….it takes thinking …more than building; to achieve something special. It would not hurt my feelings at all if you had better things to do. LOL
Thanks for all the guitar music…I just love learning guitar…My poor lonely piano
