Why I think the blues are the hardest songs to write

All bases have been covered--over and over and over 100,000s of times before, the cheating-the drinking-the missing the train-the gambling -being broke--can't find a job--gotta get out of town--my baby left--woke up this morning-gotta get back to my baby--they have been the subject to the blues since the blues began pretty much the only thing that has changed is the beat and the electric guitar but the lyrics always seem to be pretty much the same-after awhile they get a little boring the same story over and over same with the guitar. You're right but maybe a ... Sounds like you got the songwriting blues...? ;-)

Ohhh I ain't got no new lyrics...
And my licks all sound the same

Said I ain't got no new lyrics
and my licks all sound the same

Baby I got the songwriting blues...
that's the name of this game!!!

You got it pretty much on the money there JM

Ever notice how most of the problems people write Blues tunes about begin in the morning?

I've often thought that folks who write and sing the Blues might have less tragic lives if they worked night jobs.

Think about it.

How many Blues songs start with "Woke up this afternoon"? :)

Come on, Mr. Alabama Chickens.
Yes, most ideas have been done but, I know you can use your vivid imagination to write something new.

Here's one of my oldies with a different theme:

Capn; I just listened to the Funeral song---now that is low down "BLUES" as it gets. Don't know how I missed it if you put it on the forum.

Thanks for the listen.
I put that out a year or two ago.
Most of my songs come from something that inspires me to make a statement.
That one was inspired by the homeless Vets I see on the streets.

Take care.
Merry Christmas

very new to this but tentatively submitting this as an idea:
I was a child on my daddy’s knee

I could not hear what he tried to tell me

I did not care that he had walked through the night

I was too young to hear of his fight

I was a teen in my daddy’s face

I did not treat him with care or with grace

I disrespected that man before me

I could not bend and he was angry with me.

He don’t need a flag and he don’t need a band

He needs a son who can understand

He don’t need parades and he don’t need a gun

He needs your respect for the things that he done.

I found a girl and a place of my own

Then my dad helped me build her a home

He showed me a hammer, he showed me a saw

But he could show me the things that he saw

Along then comes my son and it hits like a stone

I know now how my dad felt all alone

I never seen but now I feel what Dad saw

Beach, paddy or desert, his soul was raw

He don’t need a flag and he don’t need a band

He needs a son who can understand

He don’t need parades and he don’t need a gun

He needs your respect for the things that he done.

Dad’s hair is silver and his heart is gold

He never faltered, he carried the load

He can straighten his back and look in your eyes

He’ll stare down the Reaper on the day that he dies

Ouch!! A painful one Steve? That'll make a great blues song. Can't wait to hear it played in the basement.:)

Ah, if only I could play. ;-)
Please feel free to contribute any musicality to it.
My dad was in WWII, North Africa and is in his 90's now. Was listening to Max Hastings talk about his new book about Vietnam. I was 12 years at sea and away a lot afterwards too.My boy is a man now....
