Upcoming gig coming up

Well, the jig is up, as the saying goes (I wish the saying was "the gig is up" but that would be too convenient). It went well - the audience enjoyed themselves (even the ones paying attention!), they were dancing, and we all had a great time playing our music.

There is video of both sets but it's taking forever to work through that. I'll have more to say about the gig later today or tomorrow, but for now here's a song from the first set of our (somewhat reordered) set list:

Oh, and here's another one:

Excellent work Doug. You guys sounded great and I loved the guitar work, both you and the other guit player.

We have the videos up of the full performance - set lists and times are in the descriptions on youtube.
Set 1: https://youtu.be/0cR-1dvB6CY
Set 2: https://youtu.be/Xw9svUhv_Cc

In addition to Flip Flop & Fly in the post up above (another version of which appears at the end of Set 2 as an encore), I was also the singer on the third song in the first set, Need Your Love So Bad. I kind of blew up on the guitar solos (I was still nervous as hell!), but the rest of it was ok. Here's a separate video of that song - https://youtu.be/azNoZkYlldk

Lessons learned: Our inexperience shows throughout the performance, but if you don't examine it too carefully we're mostly in tune and in time with each other, and overall it sounds ok. (Some of it even sounds good!) Our endings were rough - we should've spent more time on those in our practices. On the other hand, there were no total train wrecks and only the band knows that we ended just two or three of the 20 songs the way we'd intended to. We also had some issues with our monitors and the FOH, and we could've arranged the instrument amps a little better for hearing each other - both of these are things we probably would have avoided if we'd done this a few more times.

Great stuff Doug! I also liked the PG song, and the solos sounded good, particularly the intro. (y)

I am the last person that should be giving advice about performing live.... I have not been able to get comfortable with it. Having said that, on Need Your Love, the only thing I think you need to do is dial in a bit volume and grit... just enough to drown out the chick chatter and laughter in the background.

Just wondering what "student ensemble" means.
We all met each other in an ensemble class run by a professional musician/music teacher in our area. The focus of the class is how to play as part of an ensemble, rather than on how to play any particular instrument. He's run sessions focused on blues, jazz, soul, R&B. This is the second time the blues band has played out and the first time Sue and I have been on stage as part of the band. Sue (who is my wife and also the drummer), the bass player, and the organ player have played a few gigs as a jazz trio called The Arrhythmics - mostly because the bass player is a retired cardiologist.

We're doing this on our own, independently from the class, but that's how we all came to know each other.

Doug and Sue- you are looking good and playing well. The "dancing ladies" seem to like the uptempo stuff. That ensemble didn't have any issues that I heard. Individuals might be critical of their own performance, but the group played together well.

Who was the female vocal on Angel From Montgomery?

I don't know how you recorded this. If it was a mic out in the house, you had pretty good stage balance and the house mix was good. Some crowd noise is unavoidable in that situation
