Mitch Mitchell's Yellow Rose of Texas knocked Rock Around the Clock off the top of the charts in 1955. Here's some history and bonus commentary on I'm Beginning to See the Light.

I remember when the movie "Giant" came out---Rock Hudson and the owner of a resteraunt got in a fight and bumped the juke box and it started playing "The Yellow Rose of Texas"---it was the only exciting thing in what was the most boring movie I have ever seen. My wife and I watched it a couple of years ago (she had never seen it)...she agreed---boring except for the song. Nice write up shed some light on a age old standard.
